the vuvuzela is kind of grown on me - I watched the confederations cup last year and got used to it

I became a soccer/football fan over my 10 years in the UK - was not a fan when I went over but then it grew on me and now I am almost as big a fan as my husband. My appreciation was nurtured by the fact DH's team was Arsenal, which featured such players as Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg :innocent: I recommend a google image search on Freddie.

Hi Susita,

Count me into this support group....I was awakened very early (6am) by hubby to watch the game on Friday. All day Saturday was a "copa mundial" day. I call it "monstrico" day/week. We're watching Germany and Australia right now (Germany is killing Australia 4-0 so far).

All the beer is gone because liquor stores are closed in our city on Sundays :-0

Autralia started out pretty good, very good ball movement, a few threat but couldn't finish them off. Then came the 1st goal

Germany was way offside, I hope one day just like the NBA maybe on the semi final and final stage they can bring REPLAY

Just as in Basketball, that would avoid a few bad calls and have a fair play, needless to say the German team is very young, so Germany has a bright future for years to come.

Ole Ole Ole Ole!!!!

Gone but not Forgotten!

Australia is getting reamed by Germany

I am surprised they even got into the world cup. Soccer is just not that big outside immigrant circles there.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Late joiner- How the hack did Australia get into the World Cup to begin with???b0525.gif

I saw as Germany ran them over today. I played in High school and club league in Jamaica but "retired" since coming back to the States on an F1... But from what little I know, I've never heard of Aussie having a squad so Im surprised they passed the qualifying rounds.

I fell asleep and missed Argentina's match (well, Leo Messi and Sergio Ramos)... Not bringin Arg but missed out on my boys kicking buttb0548.gif

Hopefully, wont miss out on England, Portugal or Brazil t31022.gif

At the end of the day, though, it comes down to national tastes. And the world plays football ... with their feet ;)

My thing exactly is why American's call the sport Football, when the only time the foot is legally allowed to come in contact with the ball is at a goal kick, the kick-off or a punt... THATS IT!!! NO more foot-ball contact...The remaining 4 hrs features a bunch of sweaty guys running with the not even round-shaped ball in their hands and making hand-passes and throws... Why is it called football? Aint that an like an oxymoron or something? Just saying!!!

even if the referee had decided on 'no goal' in that moment...three more goals did follow...Australia still would have lost.

All I can say

Hey wives/husbands/SO's!! Do you have a problem? Is the only channel allowed on in your house ESPN? Has your husband/wife/fiancee turned into a zombie in a trance who pays no attention to you? If the only thing they do is ask you for more beer and chips, you may join this support group.

I've been forced to watch ABC, 'cause it's in HD...but I take solace in the fact that there's an entire American Football season coming up and I shall have my revenge...

He's still in England, but calls me every five minutes to make sure I'm watching.
