i agree with you guys

if he has commited a crime he should be punished.

but to me since i am from a differnt country he should be given a warning ,at worse put in jail for a couple of months or be fined and put under probation.(since he only tried to persuade her into doing it she never did it and the guy never did anything pysical.)

that would be good enough for him.

but if he ever tries again he should be punished severly.

i think he should be given a chance.

A warning? Wow.. I know some other countries view sex crimes in a different manner.. like the fact that Singapore has a penalty of caning for the second offense of rape.. but Thats not how it works here...a sex crime is a sex crime and the guy, if he was guilty, would be lucky if he got probation; but most folks would argue for much more severe sentencing... much more severe... if it were your daughter and you did not know him, would you feel the same way?

Actually it is the internet connection that uses the address so "ditching" the computer isn't exactly. When I am using my laptop in my home it has a different IP than when I have it in NY than it would in Nigeria. The internet service provider has records of which of its addresses was used by which customer.

People that prey on children are "nice" people. They include doctors and ministers. They have to seem nice to get close to kids and in a position of trust with their parents. They are also monsters and need to be away from children

Yes if he was back in his country, most probably no one would have even looked at this case, but guess what HE ISN'T. He is in a new country and he needs to abide by the laws. Every country has its social structure and works accordingly. I can't believe you are actually supporting the sick **.

And you sure are leaving a few pointers, in your starting post you pointed out how the girl in subject has been suspended by her school, why is she suspended if nothing at all happened?

For the geek 101 answer. Yahoo mail allows for IP tracking which will let the authorities know exactly what home the the email came from. So the person who's account was hacked is ok. The person who attacked the child is guilty of some very bad federal crimes. Because the girl was a minor the crime are worse. Attempted distribution of child porn is probably the least of the offenses. That person if a USC will become a registered sex offender. If not they will end up deported.

and may be he was playing around with the girl or just trying to challenge the ability of police or may be to check if the school authorities are awake.

Not necessarily true. It is quite easy to fool any server into thinking you originated from point A when in fact you came from point G. This is easily done using an anonymous proxy server.

Anyone dumb enough to use Yahoo to pull this stunt then try the "someone hacked my account" excuse is not going for anonymous proxy server. Why on earth a grown man would claim it is OK to "play" at getting nude pictures of a child . At least he is only a permanent resident and can be sent back to where he came from forever. I actually think it would be nice if he could be sent to a country that takes a harder stance then we do on such behavior. If some countries cut someones hand off for stealing what do they do to sexual criminals ?

If the anonymous proxy server is located in another country, the feds might find that a court order is not very useful. It doesn't take much to set up a proxy server: a box and an internet connection. Setup something like that in an unfriendly country out in the middle of nowhere and you likely have a truly anonymous proxy server. Not that I'm advocating such a thing, but it can be done.

Makes no difference if they are "boyfriend/girlfriend. The ONLY thing that matters here is that he is an adult and she is a minor. There are no second chances for pedophiles, or shouldn't be. The second chance is also a second chance to commit another crime, or worse crime against a child.
