We have a group of spanish speaking Jehovah's witnesses that come to our house. I usually hide from them but Javi always talks to them. I keep telling him he needs to just tell them we already go to church. But he says, I can't be rude to them. So, they keep coming back, over and over again bringing articles and ####### to the house. I hate it.

hermana javi, is just trying to be friendly

I know he is. I'd really rather he just be honest with them though. They are just wasting their time and ours. They could be out there "helping" someone that really needs it.

i thought you shot trespassers in nc?

I might if I had a gun. I haven't gotten one yet. Right now I just have a bb gun and I think that would just tick them off. They aren't even scared of my pitbull when she barks at them. Of course, her bark is def worse than her bite, as she just lets them walk right past her to the door.

i thought it was illegal to live in nc and not have a gun :hehe:

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

We've only had people at the door to sell their religion once. They asked if we believed and I stated that I was agnostic. They both got this horrified look on their faces like I was the devil incarnated and about to taint them somehow. Maybe they think beliefs are contagious both ways if you're exposed to them long enough.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

A friend of mine back in Canada had the best encounter with Jehovah Witnesses I have ever heard. He was awakened fairly early one Saturday morning. He was not impressed at being awakened, and figured whoever decided to ring the doorbell at that time of the morning got what they deserved - he slept in the nude. So, he opened the door just as he was and there was a man and a little girl standing there. The man took one look, put his hand across the little girl's eyes and proceeded to start his "Watchtower" speal. He didn't get very far before he just stopped talking, turned around and left. My friend was never bothered by them again.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I actually don't mind the Godsalesmen at all :D they kind of make my day a little more interesting and I do admire anyone that goes door to door. People are always talking about how dangerous the world is now, how you can't be too careful, etc. etc., and maybe I'm just stupid but I try not to live by that and try to trust everyone, so it heartens me when I see that 1. people will still knock on a stranger's door and 2. people will still answer the knock. I'm in SC so god we have some kind of church every half block. I'm agnostic/atheist but pretty much desensitized to any religious dudes coming around.

I've done a few summers worth of door to door fundraising for fire departments, going all over the place to the neighborhoods with drug deals and prostitutes to the huge scary rich GATED communities (sorry Len and Bren, we still find our way in :D) and it is kind of amazing that the extreme majority of the people are just really cool and nice. So now from all of that, if anyone knocks on my door, Fedex dude to girl scouts to Mormons or whatever, I automatically invite them in and ask if they want anything, etc. It's fun

I have also had a few naked guys answer the door to me yes.

My adopted family ... (grandmother) ... loved to have JWs visit her home in NW CT. It was company for her and they visited her often ... much more than members of her own church. She often made tea and scones for the visiting JWs and they always talked about everything. When I asked her about the visits ... she just said ... keep everything in perspective ... we have an understanding and I enjoy their company.

I've had lots of visits over the years ... always learned that courtesy, kindness, directness ... even if the door knock was bad timing for me ... always was pleasant if I adhered to these ROE (rules of engagement).

A coworker of mine was Jehovah's Witness and invited me to his wedding. I went alone, and I think I was the only person in the church who wasn't JW. He introduced me to his family, and his mom had me sit next to her. There was a lot of reading from different passages in the Bible, and she held hers for me and followed each passage with her finger, but nobody pushed me at all. They were very welcoming and nice. Occasionally, someone has handed me a copy of "The Watchtower" at the laundromat, and I read it.

But I still hide from people who come to my door.

Guess my growing up in a small town ... nearest neighbor was 1/4 mile away .... and learning about life and how people are different ... is not a "todays norm".

We had rules for visitors ... very different from today's life and suburbia. I still maintain the old norms and have no problems ... even today.

I do my best to be courteous of all religions. But these particular guys last night we're speaking to me like I was a heathen in need of rescue. That's what pissed me off the most I guess. Religion or not. What right does someone have to come to my house and question any of my beliefs?

If they want to spread their religion, that's fine. They can give me a pamplet and a coffee mug, and be on their way. Let me decide for myself.

Hopefully I just had a bad experience, and these tactics aren't the norm.
