USCIS returned my I-751 application

Hello,

I sent the I-751 application with the fees to renew my wife's green card since it is 2 years old already and will expire soon.

USCIS returned my whole package and the reason is "incorrect or incomplete guarantee amount".  i sent a check of 680$ which is the correct amount and I signed it. I'm attaching a picture of the check. Please tell me what you think. Do you think  they couldn't read the check? Do you think they meant that there's another problem?

I work in a bank. Based on my experience with check deposits and cashing, the legal written amount and the number amount appear to be different. In order for the bank to accept the check, they need to be the same amounts. Looks like "nine hundred eighty" instead of "six hundred eighty". That's probably the reason they sent it back.  Just write your next check out a little more clearer and you should be ok.

It looks like 'nine hundred and eighty.' You will just need to resubmit with the check written a little clearer and you'll be good to go!

No, I had the same thing happen. I accidentally wrote my check for $5 too much.

In the “written” part it looks absolutely like “nine” even the name to whom you are sending the check to needs to be in the format they have on their website something like: 

“U.S. Department of Homland Security “

My lawyer told me he had a case of a client returned because there were no dots after the “U” & “S”! So since then he requests that his office write the check or have to confirm it if you write it!

The level of pettiness that must have required to send back... I can't fathom being that officer and feeling like I'm doing a great job. Embarrassing.

To be fair (and I can't believe I'm trying to be fair at this point!!!) I agree with everyone about the reason, and I don't think this is all that petty, really. I'm a music teacher, so I get lots of personal checks. My bank wouldn't accept that check because the handwriting looks like "nine."

I'm sorry this happened to you though.

I was more referencing the check that got sent back for not putting the dots in U. S. I agree with sending back the six/nine.

Banks do have to go by the writtten amount and it looks like a nine /be happy they didn't cash it
