Can't open a joint bank account!

We've been to a bank 3 times (Chase) and still can not open up a jiont savings account together!.

One year temporary work and travel card - did not help (married name)

Both names on utility bill - did not help (married name)

Pass port with K1 visa insert - did not help(maiden name)

I-94 - did not help (maiden name)

Certified copy of marriage certificate - did not help (married name)

I-797C action of notice states that I-485 (for AOS) has been received and is in progress (married name)

The man finely said that we need our official green card to open a bank account in both our names.

So if my wife finds a job, how is she going to cash her check?

I know it is proper to have a joint bank account for your interview for the AOS to show but how do you open one up without the official 2 year green card that you get after the interview, What else can we do??????

Going to try to add her to my bank account on Monday but don't know if that will work either!

I would to a get a SS card that will state not intended for work. then get a state id card. once you have those go to a different bank. some bank require different things

I forgot we did have official ss card - did not help ( maiden name )

I was able to open a Wells Fargo account with just my I94 and SS card, my husbands bank (First Citizens in NC) wouldn't open us account until I had state issued ID in my married name

Very frustrating!

You need to get a new bank at least for right now. My wife and I opened up a wellsfargo account when we got married and before we even filed for AOS.

We opened my account and added a joint savings without issue at Chase. All they really needed was SSN and drivers license so I don't know why they're giving you such a hard time. Try again once you get a state ID? My Chase banker said that's what was needed for me

Go to Bank of America. Each time I was living in the U.S. (B & J1 visa) all they wanted to see was just my passport with the visa and some sort of proof where I live (envelope that is addressed to me to my American home). They would definitely let you open one with your wife not having your greencard yet if they let me do it on a B visa.

Some banks you won't get to budge. No matter, if they don't want you as a customer then it's their loss isn't it? Find another bank that will gladly accept you. I hear WF and BoA will work, as well as many local smaller banks.

My husband opened two accounts with just his NOA for his I-485, SSN and Driver's lic. We are at chase so not sure why that branch is really messing with you, and they now have a copy of his EAD and GC but the accounts were opened before he has EAD and GC. So not sure.. Oh and one of the accounts is our joint account.

I was able to open a joint account with Bank of America with just my passport, birth certificate and marriage certificate. I had no SSN that time. They were very accommodating and friendly. You should try there.

Go to Wells Fargo. I opened my personal checking account and added myself to my husbands account before I even got a SSN let alone file AOS.

With an endorsed immigrant visa, your husband has the equivalent of a GC. OP's wife does not have that.

Bank of America or BBVA COMPASS are very friendly. We just opened with a passport and our lease. Very easy breezy!!!!!!
