My problem with Charles as a deputy moderator is his credibility. How can you take him seriously when he warns people and locks threads for baiting or trolling when he himself does it in OT. I just don't think that you can separate Charles the OT Troll from Charles the Regional Forum Deputy Moderator.

I know you're pointing your finger at me, Jill, and that's fine. I was not "running rampant", nor were the others who were genuinely trying to advise the OP in that case that she needed to calm down and put things in perspective. The language got emotive, as it tends to at times, but by no means was this a calculated effort to harass the OP.
I call total and utter BS on the fact that I was somehow making trouble. I was imparting the same information I was given and others have been given over the years. There's a reason why it keeps getting repeated: it's true. If the OP didn't like what she was being told, frankly, that's tough. There were NO TOS violations in that thread. Not a one. There was tough love being handed down for the sake of the OP and the sub-forum. But she was not being victimised. We were trying to help, because obsessing about the date is NOT going to make it come any faster. I agree that the thread should not have been invisibilised; now no one can see that what I am saying is actually the case in point.
Edit to add: And I resent being called a troll. I do not participate in such behaviour on the UK forum. Some of my best IRL friends post there, and I make it a point not to do such things there.

I miss a lot around here when I'm busy doing other things.
Dodi, I agree with you that forum courtesy is important. There have always been knuckleheads around Vj. There are knuckleheads on every forum. Bad behavior is tolerated more in some communities; less in others.
I didn't see your thread while it was happening. So it's hard for me to know who was being ugly and who wasn't.
I do recall though having an interaction with you recently where YOU weren't very courteous to me. I've linked it up here in case you've forgotten about it, although there's not a lot of point in the link. A mod had to go in and clean up the bits where you got wound up at me for correcting your bad information; where you asked me if I was just someone who likes to come in and stir things up; and the post where you called me a troll.

So given some of your past behaviors around VisaJourney, perhaps you should consider your more recent interactions with Vj members to be a lesson TO YOURSELF in forum etiquette.

That's not exactly clear cut though is it.
If the topic itself was fine when it was posted but was derailed and THEN closed because of personal attacks that doesn't make the original topic of conversation invalid. Surely what should not be repeated are the issues that actually lead to it being closed.

Sorry, can't agree on that one. Browne was a bit of an ####### for sticking around past his sell-by date (and thus creating the leadership struggle that culminated in Hayward), and of course there was the ridiculous sex scandal with his lover, but in general Browne's reputation in the City was far more positive than Hayward's is or has been since his tenure began. I had a terrible feeling about Hayward when he took over in 2007 but what good is there in being a Cassandra, eh?

I guess I'm just feeling his absence today more than usual. We've spoken today already but the 8 hour time difference can be SO hard. I miss him so much I can feel it in my bones, I swear.

What I see are a bunch of blokes who know the natural order of things. They also seem to know a trouble-maker when they see one.

I wandered into the Russian forum once and got kalashnikoved. They seem very prickly about people thinking they are taking advantage of the bootiful Ruski ladies by using economic levers. If more American ladies sought Ruski chaps then it would cure those perceptions, but somehow it doesn't seem to work like that. I am not casting nasturtiums, just naming a perception that everyone is acutely aware of and which I didn't invent.
