1-year ban for controlled substance
Boiler replied to MeganS's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
Is khat illegal? Yes, khat is illegal. Fresh khat leaves contain cathinone--a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. Schedule I drugs, which include heroin and LSD, have a high potential for abuse and serve no legitimate medical purpose. -

Divorced is divorced no problem there. Now that sounds odd but it may just be a phrasing issue. Ohh K1 Morocco, that does sound bad news. -
Electric vehicles have an efficiency problem
Boiler replied to Nature Boy 2.0's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
Congress provided $7.5B for electric vehicle chargers. Built so far: Zero. The sluggish rollout could undermine President Joe Biden’s reelection messaging promoting electric vehicles. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/05/congress-ev-chargers-billions-00129996#:~:text=Biden signed the bipartisan infrastructure, according to the Energy Department. The bulk of the infrastructure law funds, $5 billion, are dedicated to building fast chargers along interstate highways under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program. The program requires the chargers meet a strict set of standards, such as being built at least every 50 miles over major routes, being operational at least 97 percent of the time and featuring credit card readers for easy payment. But Aatish Patel, president of charger manufacturer XCharge North America, is worried the delays in installing chargers are imperiling efforts to drive up EV adoption. “As an EV driver, a charger being installed in two years isn’t really going to help me out now,” Patel said. “We’re in dire need of chargers here.” -

I do not know the history. I tend not to subscribe logic to such situations, now I know why not that it matters. -
Military Service Clarification for Egypt
Boiler replied to Shaynayna's topic in Middle East and North Africa
I very rarely think K1 is a good idea and does not seem to be the case here. I assume the Egyptian authorities can tell the difference between a visitor visa and an immigrant visa. With 2 1/2 years as an objective I would get going now, Cairo is backed up, longer AP is not unknown. I have seen Military Service mentioned but certainly do not know enough to sensibly comment. I would have thought he would be your best source of information, I would think it is a commonly discussed situation at his Uni, how to get out of it etc etc. -

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67629181 The BBC has seen and heard evidence of rape, sexual violence and mutilation of women during the 7 October Hamas attacks. WARNING: CONTAINS EXTREMELY GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND RAPE Several people involved in collecting and identifying the bodies of those killed in the attack told us they had seen multiple signs of sexual assault, including broken pelvises, bruises, cuts and tears, and that the victims ranged from children and teenagers to pensioners. Video testimony of an eyewitness at the Nova music festival, shown to journalists by Israeli police, detailed the gang rape, mutilation and execution of one victim. Videos of naked and bloodied women filmed by Hamas on the day of the attack, and photographs of bodies taken at the sites afterwards, suggest that women were sexually targeted by their attackers. Few victims are thought to have survived to tell their own stories. The BBC is a sort of sanitised version compared to others out there.

JANUARY 2023 I-129F K1 FILERS

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67342368 Gangland shootings and bombings that have plagued Sweden's biggest cities have spread to quieter suburbs and towns, shattering its reputation as a safe and peaceful nation. Half an hour north of central Stockholm, Upplands-Bro features lakeside boat clubs, copper-red wooden villas and apartments flanked by pine and spruce trees. But a 14-year-old boy was found dead in a forest here in August, and since January there have been several shootings and bombings targeting houses and apartments. "It's awful. We've [been] woken up by explosions in the neighbourhood and it's scary," says 42-year-old Anna Petterson, who lives in Bro and has three children. "It's very much something that we're aware of, and we talk about a lot, and are afraid of." Sweden has been a European hotspot for gang-related shootings and bombings for several years. But recently the violence has shifted beyond low-income, vulnerable urban areas and police say one reason is that gang members are increasingly targeting rivals' relatives.

New Regulations for Those Wanting to Return to the UK

This is nothing new, they will not address the actual issue as it is politically impossible so the 65,000 get swept into the overall issue. Labour will not either. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/dec/05/families-face-being-split-up-by-uk-plan-to-cut-legal-migration-lawyers-say Data suggests this could make it impossible for between 60 and 70% of workers to bring their family into the UK. Madeleine Sumption, the director of the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford, said: “This is definitely completely different to what any other high income country does.” Under the new rules, someone will be able to bring a family member into the country if they earn £38,700 year. If the partner is already in the UK, both people’s incomes will be taken into account. If someone does not qualify under those rules, they will still be allowed to bring in family members if they have sufficient savings. Under current rules that figure is £62,500, but the government is consulting over whether to increase it. -
Electric vehicles have an efficiency problem

I know someone who has a Rivian, signed up the day they became available. So far so good. He uses it as a light work truck, has a big Diesel for the heavy stuff. There are quite a few around here. I am sure he told me that they were losing a bundle on each vehicle they made, well back then, now someone repairing them is not going to lose money. And I am not sure of the structure, that may well complicate matters. A neighbour hit a Elk a few weeks back, not sure how old his truck is but he does not have the money to pay for a Garage repairs and has been buying parts off EBay. An older truck with easier and cheaper repairs. I forget the number now bit someone I know who had a new truck had to replace a rear light assembly, all in one piece and that was how much? -
New Regulations for Those Wanting to Return to the UK
Boiler replied to yuna628's topic in United Kingdom
Well I am assuming the Tories have zero chance of winning next time out, I hardly ever say zero but what would have to happen to have any chance seems so unlikely that I am going to go with it now. Labour have said they will reduce legal immigration by 2/3rds, now whether this is electioneering or they actually mean it I do not now. I personally think that getting a grip was 50 years ago, quite what the future brings well. We live in interesting times. -

HOW LOW CAN BLUE CITIES SINK? [merged threads]
Boiler replied to TBoneTX's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
A Macy’s security guard was killed and another injured in a stabbing by an alleged shoplifted at the department store in Philadelphia. Police said that the attack took place at 10.40am EST on Monday when a man allegedly tried to steal hats from the Center City store. Officials said that the security guard confronted the man, “backs off, gets the merchandise back, allows the male to go on.” But the suspect returned 15 minutes later and is accused of attacking the two security guards with a knife, say police, reported news station WPVI. Both victims were taken to hospital by police, where one of them was pronounced dead at 11.19am EST. https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/crime/macys-stabbing-philadelphia-security-guard-b2458298.html
