Hey all. Sorry for not providing an update earlier, but my wife's IR-1 was approved earlier this month, and we're both back in the US. Here's the timeline:

Medical Exam: 2/25/21 [Thursday], with Dr. Mascarenhas in Toronto
Interview: 3/1/21 [Monday] (nothing out of the ordinary to report (same basic questions). My wife did note that it's awkward to hear all conversations/interviews in the waiting room. Did they used to have more privacy for those?)
Result: AP, because our medical did not arrive on time
Medical sent to Consulate: 3/3/21 [Wednesday]
Medical acknowledged by Consulate: 3/9/21 [Tuesday] (by acknowledged, I mean that I had sent the consulate an email asking if they got the medical, the day after the Dr. said they sent the medical, and I only received a reply in the affirmative on the 9th. So they might've had it and processed it before.)
Additional information required: 3/9/21 [Tuesday], after the above email, we received an email asking for the year my wife emigrated from Pakistan, the year she immigrated to Canada (both of these years are the same, but I suppose could be different depending on if you lived somewhere else in between), and the countries she's lived in since reaching the age of 16 (none). I was surprised to be asked these questions at this stage, and over email of all things, but it turns out from all the information we've submitted to date, these dates were never there. She was very young when she moved from Pakistan to Canada, so I guess we didn't really think too much of it beforehand. We replied to this email same day.
Status update: 3/10/21 [Wednesday] Issued, Administrative Processing
Status update: 3/11/21 [Thursday] Issued, Final Processing
Tracking number received: 3/12/21 [Friday] Note: I think someone else mentioned this before, but it looks like tracking numbers often(always?) get provided on Fridays, so maybe the Consulate just pools all outgoing visas and waits till Friday to mail them out?
Visa/passport in hand in Edmonton: 3/15/21 [Monday]
POE at YVR in Vancouver: 3/16/21 [Tuesday]
SSN received: 3/24/21 [Wednesday], or yesterday, I only checked the mail today.

Green card status is still showing "Paid", on 3/15/21. I also left a review for our POE at YVR (https://www.visajourney.com/reviews/view-poe-reviews.php?entry=17200). The one thing to note is that we almost missed our flight, because our layover was 1hr19min, but it took almost 45 minutes after we landed for them to let us through to the international security check, because they were waiting for our 2 checked bags to be processed. Otherwise, the POE experience was straightforward and as described by others.

Thanks for everyone at VJ for being a part of our journey. I definitely would've run into so many different problems if it wasn't for the posters here, especially the great @Hawk Riders and @DGF.

UPDATE! MY HUSBAND IS OFFICIALLY HERE AS A LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENT! We are SO relieved and HAPPY to finally see this day. This process has been a complete emotional roller coaster for us since Day 1.

    Post-interview Timeline:
    Interview: Dec 14, 2020
    Passport Return: March 8th, 2021
    POE: March 11th, 2021

Husband traveled from YYZ airport and said customs was super easy. They asked him a few questions, mainly just confirming address and checked items. Hopefully, his SSN and GC arrive soon!

Good luck to everyone else still in this process. If we can get to the finish line in this immigration journey, so can you (and trust me when I say our case had all the twists and turns imaginable). Stay hopeful! Cheers! ❤️

Hi we didn't have police certificate at the interview (ours expired). You might get 221G at the interview as they do want original at the interview. It will have directions on how to mail the document to consulate. It will definitely delayed getting passport back with visa. We were told 4 week delay. Our interview was Jan 27 and PCC reached embassy on February 4th. We just got our status updated to Issued on Feb 19. Hope this helps.

I crossed at the Peace Arch border crossing in BC yesterday to activate my visa! Here’s my experience:

    - Rented a minivan from Avis for $186 CAD for a 24-hour rental with drop-off anywhere in Seattle.
    - The CBP officer at the first window asked me what I was bringing with me, I presented my itemized list and she asked a few clarifying questions about produce/seeds/narcotics etc.
    - I was sent to secondary to process my visa and a second officer came up to me after about 10 minutes, took my passport and orange slip given by the first officer, and told me to sit tight and stay comfortable
    - The officer came back about 20 minutes later and handed back my passport with the IR-1 stamp placed in it, congratulated me and recognized how long I must have been waiting for this whole immigration process to end, at which point I started bawling 😅

I know some folks have had to go inside recently to finish the processing and pay the $6 fee for the I-94 but I was not asked to do so. The whole process was painless and I was so thrilled to finally be able to use a land crossing again to enter the US after having to fly when visiting over the past year! Still has not set in that this isn’t just another one-month visit and that I’m here for good - AHHHH! It’s safe to say that I haven’t slept as well as I did last night in a long, long time.

I’ll keep you all updated on the arrival of my SSN and permanent green card. Sending best wishes to all who have interviews in the coming weeks!  ❤️

The train would be even cheaper. Parking in Montreal is a nightmare. Never mind driving in the winter.
I got economy tickets on Via Rail for $50 each way (Tuesdays are cheapest to buy on, usually). 6 hour travel time and the train station isn't too far from downtown.

My apologies if this is no longer true, but it is what I was told on Dec 11 when I called.  It's possible they were closed Monday January 4th only.

Yep, the only reason I went into AP was because of my delayed medical.  The officer told me "okay so everything is in order with the exception of the medical, which we have not received".

I was quoted the following timelines :   "Once we receive the medical, we will review it within one week,  and then you can expect to see your passport back 2-3 weeks after that" .. So technically, I received my passport back faster than I was expecting!

One option I'm looking at for us in Edmonton is to fly to Toronto and do the medical there, and then drive to Montreal. This is significantly cheaper for us than flying directly to Montreal.

For everyone that just got their letters, congrats!

Now, step back, take a DEEEEEP breath.  It's all gonna be ok! ☺️

I know, it hits you because you've been waiting for forever to get the news, but everything will be ok!

You won't be able to register your appointment for a day or 2, so don't panic.  When you register for your passport return, you can change your delivery from Canada Post to courier up until a few days before your interview.

Please make sure you check the FAQ's for the items you need in your packet and interview.

And, I most sincerely hope the odds are in your favour - that medical appointments and flights cooperate and play nice for everyone to book (and arrive) without too many headaches or additional stress.
