She doesn’t even have to go back to clean out the apartment and tie up loose ends, obtain her child’s school records etc?   What about the other parent?

Congratulations everyone who has gotten their citizenship and interview dates.
    Dallas center is soooo slow.
I haven't gotten any update since August after notice of acceptance.
I try to make enquiry but I was told it is still within the timeframe of processing

Twice_Ola reacted to SpaceAge in Beware bad information on AOS deadline for K1 (fresh out of jail)
So, like many people I filed my own K1 application and read a lot of forums and visa pages online including this one with a video https://rapidvisa.com/required-adjust-status-within-90-days-fiance-visa/ this stating you do NOT need to adjust status in the 90 days, just marry which I did.

I have also been in FB groups of people who married late in the 90 days and adjusted status just fine.

So basically, I entered mid Dec, married late February and even though I couldnt find anything on USCIS about a deadline to file, I was really trying to do it within 90 days so I could finally sit my driving test on receipt of NOA1.

I had it all completed ready to post with a signed cheque and everything but my husbands 1099 tax form which had been posted in error to his old address. Knowing I needed it for the affidavit, I made what was now a HUGE mistake to wait for it. I was 2 weeks over the 90 days at this point.

I was in the car at a traffic incident and the police officer asked to check IDs, I happily showed my passport as I did not think it would be a problem. Well it was, I was arrested and Border Patrol came for me and would not let me go home to show them my completed pack, nor the proof we had chased the rogue document.

I was taken to the Border Patrol offices for processing taking 7 hours then sent straight to jail where I have been for 5 weeks. The ICE deportation officer who could have given me bail refused to grant it me despite me getting very ill with my medication being stopped abruptly and said ALL immigrants are now forced to wait to go to court and be seen by a judge as you are immediately in deportation proceedings on arrest. It took 4 weeks to get a court date and a further week to get a bond hearing. I ended up paying for a lawyer and paying $5000 bond to get out of jail for what I could have resolved within days had they let me get the tax form.

I have read all the USCIS site and cannot see anything about the need to FILE in 90 days, just marry. I appreciate some people may know this but I and many others I have spoken to did not so this post is merely a warning to others. I have lost all my money now being unable to work as my EAD was in the pack to send off, I lost my honeymoon, I have more court dates now and lawyer fees to pay plus the AOS filing fee when they let me do that. This has been distressing and terrifying and having never been in trouble in my life, jail was dreadful.

(Also on a side note I saw a lot of people in jail who had actually entered illegally from Mexico living in the US for many many years and their treatment was appalling. Not one person in the jail spoke Spanish and all the legal papers they were served were in English with no translator.)

Please be careful when reading online about filing for AOS, learn from my mistake as I have lost everything and to add salt to the wound, as I only have my husband here, who had to keep driving to the jail and also to the court in Cleveland, he now lost his job for too much time off trying to get me out.

Hopefully he will get a job to be able to continue the affidavit or I’ll be getting sent ‘home’ where I have nothing to go back to. I have never felt so desolate as I do now and stuck.

    Thanks for reading.

Twice_Ola reacted to mushroomspore in Sheriff asked for my passport
Technically, police officers can ask you anything but at the same time, you have the right to remain silent and to not discuss your immigration status with law enforcement officers. They cannot detain you in order for you to "prove" legal status either. Cops technically only need some form of valid ID. And your husband's right that it was weird the sheriff asked. Why did the sheriff specifically ask about a green card? What if you were just here visiting legally or on some other visa? Immigration issues are not in a sheriff's jurisdiction except in the case of a serious investigation where one or more federal agency has enlisted local law enforcement.

I'm trying to Google this further because there was quite an uproar last year over law enforcement asking immigrants (both legal and illegal) off the street about their legal status.

Twice_Ola reacted to Honeythunder in Sheriff asked for my passport
We were driving home last night and got pulled over by a sheriff for a burned-out license plate light. He asked my husband (the driver) for his license and then he asked me (the passenger) for my license. I said I don't have one yet.

He asked for my passport and luckily I have it with me. He went back to his vehicle and ran a check. He came back and asked if I have a greencard. I said I don't have one yet because it is still processing. I showed him the text notification I got from USCIS that they received my case. Luckily he let us go. My husband still thinks it's weird that a sheriff would ask the passenger's identification for something like a burned-out light.

From now on I will have a copy of my NOA1 in the car. I can't imagine what would have happened if we got pulled over during the time when I don't have the USCIS notif yet. I might have been detained to prove legal status?

Citizenship interview is about you, not your spouse. Your spouse is not needed and will not be part of the interview. Questions could be asked about your marriage just to be sure it was a good faith marriage. If you have had your green card for 3 years, you qualified for citizenship under 3 yrs rule.  If you waited many years then you qualify on either 5 yrs or 3 yrs. In either case your wife has no business with your interview unless you are on a 2 year green card and you concurrently have interview to remove condition on your green card scheduled same day as your n400 interview. Dallas office is bipolar. You dont know what to expect with respect to status updates and oaths. Best wishes.

The review could be for something that requires additional checks or treatment.  I don't like the fact that they have asked you to take $1000 to the meeting though.  That sounds sketchy.  Are you sure you got the call from your doctor, and is he/she authorized by the local U.S. embassy?

Hello All! Had my combo interview last Thursday 9/10/20 at 8:30am. We had to wait about 45min before being called in, it started with the I-751 portion which took less than 2minutes... IO asked when did we get married, if we had children (we don't) and the asked my wife to go back to the waiting room. N-400 "interview" was just going over the form, questions (Who is the vice president? State that borders Canada? East coast ocean? I don't remember the rest), and then I was asked to write on the iPad "We have one hundred senators" everything went good, took about 15min and I was recommended for approval. N-400 case was updated the same day around 2pm to "Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed". No updates at all in the documents tab on my profile until this morning when I found out my oath ceremony will be next Friday 9/25. Almost over with my journey!!

    My dates:
    I-751: 10/19/2018
    N-400: 9/7/2019

It sounds like good news but I'm not holding my breath. Trump is up for re-election and is after votes so if he wins he will go right back to his take on immigration and bannibg people from coming here. It's really sad to me that people can't just get married and be together without having to jump through hoops like circus animals. It's ridiculous.
