K1 has many disadvantages over a CR1, except in one crucial aspect - visa restrictions.

There are certain countries where it is very difficult to get a tourist visa to the US, especially for single adults with US boyfirends/girlfriends.   For them, the K1 is a good option, especially if the marriage process in their home countries are long and/or complicated and therefore the US citizen can't realistically go over to marry in the beneficiary's country.

Also, it is always helpful for the beneficiary to have a chance to visit and live with their US citizen partner to see if things will work out.  Culture shock and language barrier can be too harsh for some couples to overcome, and it is better to find out about that before marriage.

I know someone who brought is fiance over to his nice, large suburban home in Texas.  By US standards, it was a great house and a nice neighborhood.  His fiance found it unbearable.  She didn't drive and it was like a plush prison. No friends, couldn't walk outside and down the street to a local grocery store or cafe, or catch the metro to the city center...none of the things she was used to at home was available there.  They decided to call things off and not get married, and she returned home.

People who are from a VWP country or can get a tourist visa have the opportunity to visit the US, live with their partner and see if it will work out, before committing to marriage.  For others, the K1 visa is the only alternative.

Why would I be against someone getting married? Now that would be absurd don't you think? But at times truth has to be said even when it's not palatable. But you know what is even sadder  beyond all this? Some immigrants are willing to vote against their own interests by putting DJT in November. That's how twisted people have become.

Look if you don't agree with the post fine. But don't sit there and tell us not to do something. So you mean to tell me a professional athlete should be able to get in but not my fiancée? I'm sick and tired of hearing CR-1 IR-1 people saying that our Visas don't matter. Go to another forum if you don't like it.

In some cases K-1 is the only option for same sex couples if the beneficiary's country does not allow same sex marriage.  Hope for the best in November and if the Sazon man wins again, I guess we are screwed big time for 4 more years.

My fiance doesn't work, and being from a country with one of the weakest passports on earth is used to not being able to travel internationally.
That's the question sweetie: is it any different? I don't know. If I did, I wouldn't ask the question. Thanks as always for your great help.

Bring him go eat chilli crab in Singapore or Or Lua or Fied Kuay Diao.    Now, if he is telling you no taxes, its a red flag, I suggest you ask him log in to Social Security administration website and pull out his history and show it to you.   IRS can provide tax transcripts too on the website ... pdf download.    Please verify what he told you, its for your good down the road so as to fix problems early.

I've been back since the denial, and I have another trip coming before her next interview. I haven't kept up to date with my progress here, because honestly, I see no point to do it. I appreciate the help I've received from some members, but it feels like no one personally cares about anyones situation. I thought this was supposed to be a site to help people going through difficult times, not a place where people are going to post questions, and than get snarky responses like. "Looks like my price has gone up". It's just not necessary.

I did this time, we've already been denied in Cambodia for what they deemed "not adequately displaying intent to marry", basically a 221g that the relationship wasn't legitimate. So we refiled and this time I've included letters from co workers, friends, parents that all talk about how they are aware of our relationship and intent to marry. My mother is even ordained and she included her documents for that as she has offered to officiate our wedding.

Will any of it help, not sure. My dad has wrote a letter and since passed away, so I'm not positive if that will make a difference. Since everyone included their phone numbers to call if necessary.  I'll be bringing a copy of the death certificate as a precaution.

It's easy for people to say it isn't necessary, when they already have their significant others here, or went through an Embasy that isn't that difficult. So it depends where you're going through.

I'm going through Cambodia, an Embasy that approves around 20-25 K1s a month vs somewhere like Manilla that approves around 300.
