jeanieCZ reacted to Howins in Feeling unbearably depressed and homesick
Hi all, I don’t really know where to start but I’m basically at my breaking point due to the stress of AOS, acclimating to living in the US, Covid-19 and homesickness after coming here on a K-1.

I’m home alone all day. I’ve recently received my combo card, but I’ve not found any work yet. I can’t get my driver’s licence as the DMV is closed (not that we could afford a second car anyway) and there’s nothing really walkable where we live.

I’m really struggling to fit into the American way to life and lockdown has made it nearly impossible to make new friends.

I moved in October of last year and haven’t been able to go home yet. I expected a six month wait before I would get my AP through and so be able to travel — but the pandemic has made it even more complicated.

I miss home desperately but I’m terrified to fly in case I’m turned away when I try to return with just an AP. I’m also terrified to fly home in case I pick up Covid-19 from another passenger, as cases are skyrocketing in the US. I would be quarantining with my sister once I arrived back in the UK, and she’s pregnant. I couldn’t risk putting her in danger.

I’m so depressed, it’s almost unbearable. I just want to go home and see my family. I’m really not enjoying my life here like I thought I would.

I never thought this would happen to me — I travelled to the States frequently before I decided to move here and always loved it, and I really didn’t expect to miss home this much.

Lockdown has made things more difficult and I know that, and that’s what I try to tell myself when I get really down — but the uncertainty of everything is a real killer. I have no idea how long my green card might take and I don’t know if it’s safe to travel on AP or during the pandemic.

My husband tries his best to be supportive but it’s hard for him to understand why I’m so depressed when we worked so hard to be together, and I can’t really explain it to him. I don’t tell anyone at home how miserable I am because I don’t want them to worry, and I try to play it down when around my husband’s family in case I sound like I’m being over dramatic.

I’m sorry this is such a bummer of a post, and I know everyone on here is going through/has gone through something similar and I shouldn’t whine about it. I’m really trying to put on a stiff upper lip but I just don’t know how long I can keep a lid on it.

I figured if anyone would understand, it would be you guys.

Thank you for the venting space, it really helps.

you need to have an account and informed delivery with USPS. I made an account just for this purpose...only they had to confirm my address, so they mailed me a letter addressed to " -my name- or current resident" (😂😂😂) which took 3 days, so I had my combocard before my account was activated.
And ever since then I receive an email daily, informing me about mail that I have received THE DAY BEFORE. What a useless nonsense of a "service"... 😂🙄

    Hey y'all,

I was going to let everyone know how my interview went. We got there at 12:45 and were the first ones to be allowed inside. We waited in the room and got called in by this gentleman. Before taking a seat we had to take the oath. He asked for my SSN, combo card, passport, my husbands DL and his passport. He made some copies. Took a picture or something. He then proceeded to ask questions about my I485, I had to tell him my name, date of birth, current and previous address, SSN (only knew the last 4 digits) lol, parents name and date of birth, their address and my husbands full name and date of birth. He then started going over the questions from page 11 to 14?.

After that he wanted to know how we had met, when we met irl, when we began our romantic relationship, our first date, relationship with his parents and my parents. He asked my husband where he works, asked when he decided to propose to me and when we decided to do the K1. We talked about our case taking long and he asked why I thought it took long and I gave my explanation because we didn't file the right paperwork about my husbands juvenile case and got an intent to deny.

He was very friendly and made a conversation, he also asked when I had came down and I gave him all my dates, he asked if my diploma would carry over and if id be able to use it.

At the end he asked for our shared bills and I was lucky since I copied them this morning, gave that to him. He asked if we are being pushed by family yet to have children. We said that my husbands mom wants to be a grandma but we will wait lol.

He said he would approve me today and id get my green card in 2 weeks. Told me about the removal of conditions, naturalisation and what to do for that.

Hey y'all, I have my interview upcoming Thursday and wanted to show what I prepared for my interview.
Maybe anyone has tips or finds the way I organised everything useful for them!

    I got this organizer from amazon and find it very useful!;
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J873DF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    I made a cover letter with the order of documents in this organizer. Basically I added the following documents to the organizer;
    - Interview invitation
    - AOS NOA's
    - I129 package, NOAS and Intent to Deny
    - AOS package
    - Affidavit of support with RFE and extra recent paystubs
    - Shared bank account and bills together
    - Birth certificate of me and my husband
    - Copy of his passport + original passport
    - Extra documents
    - 2 Facebook posts and wedding pictures, I added wedding pictures in ziplock bag because I want to use them again in the house

The red organizer is from when I went to my K1 interview and has all our past pictures, chats, flight plans and everything. I added new pictures to it since they didn't look at it during my K1 interview and I didn't want to throw away all of my hard work 🤣

I was actually shocked that Darcey went to a therapist - I think that for her own wellbeing, she should keep going to therapy, quit the TLC nonsense and start living her life for real. This type of drama is destructive.

It varies by state. You'll be returning to Virginia; correct? If so, "Consistent with CDC guidance, Virginia currently does not have any quarantine requirements for people arriving in the Commonwealth from other U.S. or international locations, as of August 13, 2020." https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/coronavirus/travel-to-areas-with-widespread-ongoing-community-spread/
It sounds like he can accompany you: https://www.mvcr.cz/mvcren/file/conditions-for-entry-of-persons-to-the-territory-of-the-czech-republic-valid-from-august-25th-2020-00-00-in-accordance-with-the-ministry-of-health-protective-measure.aspx Page 7 "Family members of Czech citizens"

Things I did early on in the process
    1) apply for any police certificates you need other than the one she's currently living in (if you get that too early it may time out by the time you get to interview - but if there are any other countries she previous lived in and needs them from, get them now, assuming she won't be going back to those countries).
    2) make sure all the vaccinations that are required at the medical have been given. Some like MMR require multiple shots over a period of weeks, so good to get them done now. Collect documentation of any previous vaccinations that will be needed at the medical. I was able to get a full list of my entire vaccination history at my local NHS doctor in the UK, and get the additional shots that I needed (for example MMR vaccine wasn't around when I was a kid, they gave me a tetanus booster too).
    3) Renewed my UK passport (didn't want it to run out and have to be renewed soon after I was in the USA) - if it has a few years left on it then you don't need to do this
    4) Keep good records of all your applications, and file them so you can easily refer to them later if required.

Learn as much about the process as possible. Its good to know what steps you have to do in the future as you can prepare for those now. Reading this forum regularly is a great way to do that as you'll see the questions and problems others are having further down the process so you can learn from those.

You can find some more info at https://www.visajourney.com/k1-fiance-visa-overview/.

I would advise to collect as much info for the future filings as you already can.
Make a timeline for yourself, so that you don't forget to apply for things on time. Make to-do lists and checklists.
Look up what the requirements are for getting married in the US state where you intend to get married once you'll have entered.
Look up the local DMV and their rules on issuing a driver's license.

    Good luck!

Happy to share that I received my combo card today. This is such a relief after a year of me being jobless, my wife losing her job due to covid, losing all our savings, facing eviction lawsuit and more.. It has been extremely painful. But our love for each other kept us going and our relationship has evolved stronger.

I wish everyone the very best!
