JL & ML reacted to Mike E in Wife's birth certificate... miniature version okay?
My apologies. I rarely see jus soli USA citizens with wallet sized BCs and so I misread the rest of of your OP.
Some IOs will demand her large format USA birth certificate and give you an RFE. I.D. is not what is being asked for here. Instead what is being asked for is US citizenship, especially at the time the USA citizen filed petition.
Some IOs won’t even ask.
YMMV

JL & ML reacted to Mike E in Wife's birth certificate... miniature version okay?
As a Canadian K-1 petitioner, I was required to produce my naturalization certificate. My IO was not interested in my Canadian birth certificate (which I did bring because the letter demanded it. I knew the letter was likely not asking for the correct thing.).
Still I’ve seen cases whether the K-1 petitioner at an I-485 interview was asked for both foreign birth certificate and CRBA/naturalization certificate/citizenship certificate as appropriate.
I think she will be fine with her wallet sized provincial birth certificate but hopefully she has her CRBA/naturalization certificate/citizenship certificate

If she has a US passport, That is an alternate way to prove citizenship if asked. At my wife and I AOS interview, they didn't ask for birth certificates at all. Just our state ID cards.

JL & ML got a reaction from Chancy in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
Just got the notice in the mail today - AOS interview on Thursday, May 5, 2022! Almost two years to the day after applying for AOS and close to three years since we initiated the K-1 process in late May 2019.

JL & ML reacted to jaysaldi in Bringing baby to AOS interview
Thanks. What do you mean when you say all children are to be listed on the application? This is an I-485 AoS from marriage. No child was listed on the application, the child was just born a few months ago.
-
JL & ML reacted to payxibka in Bringing baby to AOS interview
The USCIS building entry covid protocol is to allow anyone in who is named on your application. Since ALL children are to be listed, they will be allowed to accompany you.

JL & ML reacted to jaysaldi in Bringing baby to AOS interview
How did this go? I'd be interested in any stories about people bring a baby to an interview during COVID times. Our I-485 interview was just rescheduled. Obviously, there are two schools of thought: (1) the baby is very persuasive evidence of a bona fide relationship and the officer may want to eyeball the kid to see if he looks like the father, (2) COVID protocols lean towards no unnecessary potential spreading people, even babies, in any setting and a birth certificate and photos of baby would suffice, and the baby could cry/puke/poop/spit and be a disruption.
Are there any threads discussing babies in interviews during the last six months?

JL & ML reacted to aaron2020 in Bringing a baby to AoS interview (and other related questions)
1. There's no supplement or amendment for the I-485.
2. Bring a certified copy of the child's birth certificate to the interview. This will help strengthen your relationship evidence.
3. No reason to bring your child to the interview as proof. You have a birth certificate as proof.

JL & ML reacted to jaysaldi in Bringing a baby to AoS interview (and other related questions)
The interview notice she received in March (later canceled) said "You do not need to bring your children unless otherwise instructed"
This one says "You should not bring your children unless otherwise instructed." I assume that's a COVID change.
The breast feeding angle is a good one. And the updated I-485 is a good idea.

JL & ML reacted to Buster & Hitch in Bringing a baby to AoS interview (and other related questions)
I am interested about this as well! I had a baby in July and am still waiting on the green card interview. I am breastfeeding and just assumed I would bring my baby with me, I hadn't considered they would ask to not bring family. When I asked before about updating the i-485, people told me to just bring an updated i-485 to the interview with the birth certificate and baby's social security info. Curious to see what others say.

JL & ML reacted to TripleCity in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
Too many unknown variables and nothing is happening anyway if if they wanted to shoot me in the foot it would probably be a delay for that as well. It will be righted but likely not without much effort my persistence has paid off usually. I’m just going off of what followup the UsCIS agents told me to do and when. The agents have said a few months back they couldn’t see whether it’s 1R1 vs CR1. They did mention if it’s CR1 I could submit a change. At the 60 day mark I called to find out if production had started, they said they didn’t see anything call after the 90 days and if it’s still not received then the agent I speak with will do a service request to have them begin processing.
When I called today they acknowledged it is outside the processing time of 90 days, they will do tje service request. At the time I asked if they could see if its the IR1 that’s being issued. They were saying its CR1 by any indication they could see but they weren’t confident, the phone cut off with that agent and the next one I spoke to made a ticket for the subtype inquiry. It’s all more of the same frustrations each step of the way. Apparently if I don’t see a case status update in 4 weeks I can call back to see.

JL & ML reacted to mam521 in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
May have shot yourself in the proverbial foot. Too many things at once confuses USCIS. The system should have triggered the IR1 automatically.
Our greencards took 177 days or something silly. Many people are now being told straight up it can take up to 6mo to get the card.
2 out of the 3 cards came with the correct IR status. 1 was incorrect. I filed the I-90 to have it changed, free of charge. Received new card, it's good.
However, still received an NOA to file ROC on said greencard that the I-90 was filed for. Tried to call USCIS - their systems were down. Ooi vey...

JL & ML reacted to TripleCity in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
I just got off the phone with USCIS for them to initiate a service request to begin production of the physical green card, but the IR1 type and the agent also advised that I do an inquiry on myUSCIS as well. It has been 90 days after paying the immigration and entering the US on the visa stamp in my passport I-551.
It seems reasonable to me that if they are going to begin to process the physical Green card that they process the right subtype. I don’t know why I keep having to remind them of their own rules around IR1 vs CR1. I will be putting the inquiry request today. From what the agent mentioned ot could go to a Level 2 agent. Right now I have two service requests one for the production of the green card the other one trying to ensure they isssue the 1R1.

JL & ML reacted to K1visaHopeful in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
The link you used is the link for an e-Request which is not the same that is used for a case enquiry on the USCIS processing times website.
That is why I was confused as the website for case enquires only allows you to make a request once outside of normal processing times.
https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/
A case enquiry from the above website is what is referred to as a case enquiry while the website you used is an e-Request which is not the same thing.

JL & ML reacted to K1visaHopeful in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
We you outside of normal processing times when you placed an online "enquiry about biometrics"?
(The system would not have let you unless you were).
How did you specify that you were enquiring about biometrics.....
-
JL & ML reacted to Family in Reschedule interview - how easy post-covid era?
Your reasons are perfectly valid and a reschedule request will be granted as they involve previously made commitments related to travel/school/ work. If you cannot reach an agent, you can also write a”Request To Reschedule “ to the Field Office Director ( address on the Interview Letter) . Send it by certified mail.
After that you just wait .
An acquaintance called in to reschedule an interview set for Dec 14, 2021 ( he returned from travel and was not feeling well), they rescheduled him for Jan 12 , 2022. For valid reasons he had to request another reschedule and is still waiting.

*** Moved from AOS from K1 Visas forum to AOS Progress Reports ***
Sometimes it takes more than one inquiry. In my case (GC production, not AOS), not a peep even after 120+ days. Then a couple of days after my 2nd USCIS service request, "Card Being Produced" 😑

JL & ML got a reaction from Mike E in Using the USCIS "Case Inquiry" function
We recently used the USCIS.gov "Case Inquiry" option (Case outside normal processing time) regarding AOS. We filed for my AOS in May of 2020, had the biometrics appointment in February 2021, and nothing had happened since then. About a month or two after using the "Case Inquiry" option on USCIS, I checked my USCIS online profile and saw that my case was ready to be scheduled for an interview. A little over a week later, it said an interview had been scheduled (as of April 4) and they would be mailing me a notice.
I bring this up here because I realize now that I used the exact same "Case Inquiry" function to ask about my biometrics appointment back in late November 2020. From May to November 2020, I received no update on my case; shortly after making a formal inquiry, I was invited to the biometrics appointment (rescheduled twice for reasons too complicated to get into here). In any case, it seems now that the "Case Inquiry" is a gentle way to poke and prod about the status of your application, and in our case it seems to have worked.
Unless it's entirely a coincidence!
-
JL & ML reacted to Allaboutwaiting in Case status changed to "Interview Was Scheduled"
Based on the forum members timelines, your interview might happen in around 5-6 weeks after the status changes. You should receive the notice in about a week.
You do need some financial commingling: shared credit cards, joint tax return, you as the beneficiary for life insurance or savings account in case of death. It is VERY important.

JL & ML reacted to K + M in How long expect to get interview letter?
Checked our case status other day and it says Interview Scheduled, and that they will mail us with the interview notice. They scheduled the interview on 2/3, whats the expected wait time to get the interview notice in the mail now? I am asking as I am curious how long should wait, and if we don't get the notice by a certain time would contact USCIS to see if there is any issues. I was thinking a week, but it might be longer to get the notice in the mail.
By the way what I mean by saying they scheduled the interview on 2/3 it says "On February 3, 2020, we scheduled an interview for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, We will mail you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice"
It is on this notice we will get in the mail that I assume will have the actual interview date on it, whats the usual timeframe they give to prepare for the interview after getting the notice?
Thanks in advance.

JL & ML reacted to payxibka in Can I request postpone my AOS interview?
You are worried about nothing. If you have not received a scheduled interview notice by now you won't have an interview until sometime in 2021.
Depending on your local office tbe wait can be anywhere from 3 mos. to 2 years for an interview
