Just thought I'd give a quick update! We received our letter in the mail yesterday, our interview is set for 23rd December. We filed last November if this helps anyone with a similar timeline

Hey guys! I keep following this thread every now and then to see how you are doing.
After finally getting my EAD with the right gender on it 2 months ago, I started applying to as many Data Analyst and similar jobs in DC as I could find. It was tough, I didn’t get any interviews at all except for this one company. After 1 test and 3 interviews, I made it and got my first job offer in DC! I’m starting July 6th, working remotely because of Covid.

I wish you all the best! These are hard times so, hang in there!

Everything is falling into place. Thank God and the USA!!

The green cards are next for everyone here if I received mine last week and I am in NYC.

Going to stay in the hamptoms until this virus is gone. Sucks that it is ruining so many lives.  I really hope the best for everyone and be safe. I am lucky and wish everyone the same.

I got my first job offer today!! Hooraayy!! While I am not going to accept their first offer I was wondering what could still happen that they would not be able to hire me because of some USCIS bs. I am still concerned about all the background checks and because we don't have a greencard but just an EAD which seems to have a lower value to some employers. I don't have anything to hide and no entries in my police records, and the offer is from a large global company with more than 60K employees.

My wife and I got married in December too. We went to HR Block for assitance regarding the chance of filing jointly with foreing income.

The accountant helped us out with everything, I had to just tell her a good estimate on my earnings in Chile (2019), and she told us it would all be exempt on our joint filing.

Like I said in the other post, I saved my wife $500 in tax payment, and she got $80 back. Although HR Block charged us something in between $100-$200, it was totally worth it, considering we also got our stimulus money very fast.

    Best of luck!

I have used the time in isolation to leverage my LinkedIn skills. 6 weeks ago I created it from scratch (almost) and am now starting to get a ROI  recruiters are reaching out and I try to network my way into companies so I have contacts who can forward my resume to recruiters and hiring managers. This has worked twice last week, with Fortune 100, and I had interviews/phone screens scheduled within hours.
I attended a lot of webinars in the past 6 weeks and here are two of my favorite free resources:

    1) General job search: https://www.js101.org/classes
    2) LinkedIn: https://www.mellermarketing.com/events-presentations

I follow Professor Heather Austin, Linda Raynier and Madeline Mann (Self Made Millenial) on YouTube and find their content very helpful.

Are you using tools lile Jobscan.co to verify that the right keywords are mentioned on your resume? This has helped me to mirror the language of the company and to make sure that I don't miss anything. Good luck!

Green card just arrived! 🥳 It was originally projected to arrive tomorrow but ended up out for delivery today. We were planning a celebratory takeout meal tomorrow night anticipating it coming 😆 Think we will still do that anyway

OMG just got another text and checked my USCIS account the status is On April 3, 2020 Case Was Approved. If this is an error it's a HUGEEEEEEE one as far as I am concerned. (*&^ every time my phone goes off with my USCIS tone it makes me jittery now!!!!

Well I was not going to post this as it could be a HUGE error, but I decided to post anyway as it serves to give other VJers information and also something to perhaps look out for if you are in the same boat as us. I'm a September 2019 AOS filer my AOS interview was scheduled for April 17th and due to the virus situation it was cancelled as I expected. My status changed back to case ready for interview on April 1st. Enter today April 3rd I get a text from USCIS get this..... that a new card is being produced for the I-485 form (GC)!!!!!!!!

No interview no advance warning no nothing. I immediately logged on to my account at USCIS and low and behold  the status is New Card Is Being Produced!!!!! Can you believe that? USCIS has been known to error before, so I really can only hold my breath until the card arrives in the mail. I'm sure this will happened to other folks here on VJ if in fact this was not an error. So we all can be on the look out for other people getting their GC without going on a interview. I know no interview was a common thing several years ago, but USCIS changed that to where everyone interviewed. The only thing I can think of other than being an error is USCIS decided that all the cancellations of interviews was going to set them way behind so they decided to clean out a few cases and approve without an interview.

For your information we submitted the standard AOS packet (pre February 24th). In addition to the supporting documents for the I-485, I-864, I-765 and the I-131 we did not send any other documents or evidence (besides the marriage license). I have no explanation other than what I have laid out here. I'll for sure post here once the card reaches us! What a Friday!!!!!!!!! And it's early still!!!!!

Same here... On Friday I joined a free webinar about job search from a local job consulating company. I found the webinar on Nextdoor and the company provides assistance with resume review, interview preparation etc. I asked the owner when I should start applying for jobs, estimating that my EAD will come some time in May, and she said right now! Even if it happens that I won't have the EAD by then, it will help me establish a network. Recruiters might remember me when they have new positions to fill at a later point. What do you guys think about this? I am afraid I might upset companies when I apply and they invite me to an interview just to find out that I don't have my EAD yet. Many job listings say that they only accept applications from candidates that are legally authorized in the US; sometimes they even mention that only Greencard holders or US citizens should apply. I have applied for a job with BASF US some time ago and they have an online questionnaire. When I hit the "No" button to answer the question whether or not I am legally allowed to work in the US I immediately received an email that they cannot consider my application at this point. My gut feeling tells me to wait a bit until sending first applications, but my business mind wants to start right away
In the meantime, I am reading the book "How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile" to become more visible for recruiters... Really enjoying it so far! In my home country we don't really use LinkedIn that much or only to a very small extent...
    Stay safe and healthy everybody!

Just some random information...i was talking at work with our lead immigration attorney and he used to work for the US Government and did many many AOS interviews.

He was saying some quick tips:
    1. make sure you have pics with the parents, even if the pics are from K1 timeperiod...it establishes the bona fide
    2. make sure you quiz on the mundane things (side of the bed you sleep on, color toothbrush, do they use floss) things that only living with someone would show you

we are going to get coffee in the coming weeks to get a list of questions he used to ask and i will share....but thats what i have right now.
