I think it is really important for both the USC and the foreign national to be aware of the possible issues when you marry someone you've only ever spent time with online and on vacation.
Meeting and marrying a narcissist is one problem, but you can also marry an abusive, controlling spouse and not see the red flags until you live together.
It might also be the simple issue of not really being compatible in day to day life.

But, most people are in love and won't listen to warnings.

So often the questions raised by members is "How fast can I bring my partner to the US?"
    Not
"How do I navigate a relationship with someone from a different country/culture?"
"How do I prepare my partner for the realities of living in the US?"
"How do we navigate the difficult conversations around financial responsibilities towards family back home, frequency of visits back home and building our new life together in the US?"

@LionessDeon I am so sorry you fell victim to this person and I hope the outcomes of your actions are satisfactory,  you're able to heal from the hurt. And I wish you health and happiness going forward.

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve been on this site participating in discussions.   When my husband (now ex husband) was first denied in 2014, I took it as my mission to help others in my situation. I did that for a few years.
Well now I’m back here trying to turn another negative into a positive and hoping my pain can again help others. After 5.5 years of marriage, I have discovered that I am a victim of a covert narcissist who (along with the enabling of his family) used me for a green card and a new life.  I am here to speak my truth and hopefully bring awareness to Covert Narcissism, a personality disorder rampant within a society plaqued by systemic poverty and survivalist mentality.
Yes, now looking back I see the red flags I ignored and signs of deceit but it was so subtle and not knowing anything about covert narcissism I was completely blindsided.
My intention is to make future posts to help point out the signs of narcissistic personality disorder so others have the knowledge that I didn’t have.  Being in a long distance relationship makes it very difficult to really know a person’s true character and intentions because of the limited time spent in person. It’s so easy for these people to hide their real self and create a fake persona of who you want them to be. I have personally heard the stories of over a dozen women that have been take advantage of by these types of people. The events and behaviors  are almost identical.
I encourage anyone who has experienced this to share your story. I am a safe place and you can also private message me.

I had a joint N400 and I751 interview yesterday in Chicago. Our case has been at MSC from the beginning since we were living in the UK when my first green card was approved so have not been interviewed by USCIS before. We were NOT told in advance that it would be a joint interview, I only received a letter about the citizenship interview but I took my husband with me just in case.

    Our timeline looks like this:
    Sept 2019: submitted I751 application
Oct 2019: did biometrics for I751
March 2020: status change online to "ready to schedule an interview"
    May 2021: apply for N400
July 2021: did biometrics for N400 (they did not reuse mine from before, I don't know why)
January 2022: N400 interview was scheduled
March 2022: N400 interview in Chicago, which also included I751 interview. My husband came with me and the officer thanked him for attending but told him to stay in the waiting room while I took the citizenship test. Once I passed that, she asked me some general questions about do we own our house (yes), do we have kids (no), is this our first marriage (yes for both of us). She scanned in some additional updated documents I had brought, including property tax, car insurance, and some photos. I asked if she needed to speak to me husband and she said no, you submitted a lot of stuff and everything is in order. So technically he did not need to be there but we both got the impression that it made a difference and if I hadn't brought him, perhaps my I751 wouldn't have been approved. The officer I saw was very nice and friendly.

The officer told me that she will be approving both of my applications, although the paper I was given says "A decision cannot be made at this time" or something like that. I checked about this but she again confirmed verbally that she will be approving both applications and I will receive a letter about the oath ceremony once all the paperwork has gone through on the system. I explained that I am moving to a different state in May, and I asked if she thought the ceremony would be before that. She told me she will try and get everything finished up so that I can go to the April ceremony.

I'm relieved to have reached this point. Thanks to everyone who has posted their experiences on visa journey, it was very useful to help me be prepared for what to expect.

Just let her come on a tourist visa, spend more time together, see how it goes. Don’t cancel it, don’t plan on adjusting, you have some luxury of time to get to know each other better without rushing into anything. If it works out like you hope, then make a decision about what to do at that time.

Just had my interview this morning. It went great! Interviewer asked for updated evidence, both of our IDs and passports. We are also in the process of moving so she noted down our new address for the green card but also said to file the ar-11 change of address form. Interview was from 10.05 to about 10.30. As soon as I got back home I saw a case status update that said my new card is being produced.

I would recommend that you go with your wife if possible, to the visa interview, and just explain your situation in detail to the interviewing officer.  If they ask for a DNA test for your daughter, you can get one and it will either confirm that you are the biological father or not.  If you are the bio father, she can get a US passport for her to travel to the US with her mother.  If you are not, they should allow the current visa process to go forward without too much delay.  Sometimes errors are made and people with rights to US citizenship get US visas to enter the country.  In my personal situation, I was born and raised in Canada and did not know that I was also a US citizen through my mom until much later in life.  I was issued an F-1 student visa to do my bachelor's degree at an American university for four years, which was an error that someone missed in reviewing my case.  It was when I was applying for grad programs in the US at age 30 and inquired about a new F-1 visa, it was denied because I was born a US citizen through my mom, so I got a US citizenship certificate and a US passport at that time.  Your case is somewhat different, but I just wanted to point out that sometimes US visas are approved and used to enter the US when US citizenship issues are not crystal clear.  Good luck in your journey whatever happens!

Techincally, a child born abroad to a US citizen parent is a US citizen at birth.  But, the child is not recognized as a US citizen until the CRBA is filed.  There is no law that states that CRBA has to be filed.  Therefore, the child can be an unrecognized US citizen.

I was born to a US citizen father out of wedlock.  But my parents decided against CRBA, for some reason.  I did not become a recognized US citizen until I was 11 years old, two years after we moved to the US, when I received the official certificate of citizenship, which backdated my citizenship to the day I was born.  I did not travel to the US on a US passport.

I think there is some misunderstanding going on.

Right now the child is not a US citizen.  She is a Swedish citizen until the parents decide to pursue US citizenship with CRBA.

To the OP, technically the child can enter the US with her Swedish passport but only to visit, not to immigrate to the US.  If you want her to permanently live in the US, then you will need to go through with CRBA and get her a US passport.

Based on this and previous posts you seem to be the one uninformed. You need to look at facts and not others opinions and put your opinion aside to review the facts. US citizens can petition family members much easier than the majority of the rest of the world can. Immigration anywhere is not a right it is a privilege that comes with stipulations such as the petitioner making sure they immigrant can supported by the petitioner, not the entire US population.  Yes, it will be harder for some than others to bring certain family members here. But again, why should I have to support someone you CHOSE to bring to this country? Should there be no requirements for immigration and whomever wants to come to the US is entitled? I mean there has to be guidelines to follow and not everyone will like them but you will never find 100% consensus for anything in life.

I've always said that there is a difference between preparing early while being patient and camping infront of the PO or computer.

I hope OP sends it a few days after September 8th and not exactly on September 8th. Because if it is rejected again and you have to refile, it'll be past Oct 2nd. You'll have to cough up new fees.

The purpose of the non-immigrant visa is irrelevant. You cannot enter the US via a non-immigrant route with the intent to stay and adjust.   It is exactly the same as if someone who had a valid tourist visa.  It would be illegal for them to enter with the intent to stay and adjust status.

To qualify for an F-1, the person MUST have intent to return home after completion of their activities.  An F-1 is not a dual intent visa.

To deny entry, CBP requires only suspicion of intent, not an actual act.  Therefore, the report could trigger a thorough inspection at POE arrival or an immediate denial of entry.

    Everything happens for a reason.

I visited my now-husband over 40 times during the period we were “dating”, engaged , early days of marriage whilst waiting for my CR-1 to be complete. Many times I wished I would have just stayed. We even turned around on the way to the airport once when I was due to fly home and called the airline and changed my ticket to have another week because I couldn’t bear to leave.

Adjusting status is very “final”. Once you’ve started the process, you have to continue to the end or find yourself in an even worse situation of having to start the whole visa process again and the possibility of not being able to visit during it (your days of VWP would be over and trying to convince a consular officer that you are not going to overstay on a B-2 when you have done exactly that before on the VWP is going to be a mammoth task).

Also, it leaves you without the option to properly tie up your affairs back home, bid farewell to friends and family, enjoy your last months in your homeland before you leave for good. I am glad that I didn’t listen to my heart when I was visiting and decide to stay. I’m glad I listened to my head. I enjoyed those final months in England. I spent my time traveling around the country, seeing friends and family that I would not be able to see for a long time (someone also for the very last time), went on boozy nights out with friends, ate as much of my favourite foods as I could, and really overdosed myself on all things England. When my visa came through I was ready to leave. House had been sold, belongings packed and shipped, left my job, said goodbye to everyone. I still miss England but I don’t feel I left in the middle of something, if you see what I mean. I had closed the door properly.

I understand you can’t wait to be with your fiancé. We all went through that. But you have your whole lives ahead of you. Enjoy these last months at home - you will miss it when you’re gone.

The OP said that she was in the US on an ESTS visa. You can marry on an ESTS visa, but she/he must leave the country and file a I-130, Petition for Alien Relative otherwise she is here illegally. Trying to marry while on an ESTS visa and trying to complete AOS is fraud. So, @Sparkle Sparkle is correct.

StarLord22 reacted to SusieQQQ in F1 cannot study if University goes online
I am guessing that in most cases, the cost of a perhaps unplanned air ticket home is a lot less than US accommodation costs for the semester. It is unfortunate you cannot choose to stay in the US, though, it shouldn’t have been entirely unexpected as F1 visas usually are not available for online only courses. At least there is the allowance that (if I’m reading it right) you essentially just need one class in person to count for it being a hybrid model and be allowed to stay, I think this is more generous than usual?
