Anastasia's AOS interview was today, and we were recommended for approval. 😊

Wasn't anything difficult; just the standard security questions, names and birthdates, how we met stuff, and one or two other things.

… and our I-485 status updated to "new card is being produced" overnight, so it looks like the recommendation was acted on and we'll have Anastasia's green card next week.

I didn't jump the gun at all.  It's simply a mindset.  Step parents often feel like outsiders when they are forced into a previously established family.  No step parent can ever replace a biological parent, unless/until a child wants that.  And unless the biological parent is dead or a deadbeat, there is no reason to ever TRY to step in and play the part.

But I think it's still important to not enter the relationship feeling like an outsider.  That's all I meant about not thinking of oneself like a step parent.

Thank you for the advice! I don't ever want either her or her mum to think I'm muscling in. I'm her dad's wife (to be) and hopefully as time goes by she'll develop a relationship with me.  I'm not a stranger, so I hope that helps.

In my, very inexperienced opinion, I do not believe there is a need to force an issues with a label. You will know you are "stepmum" when she call you "Mummy" Until then, just concentrate on being a friend and caretaker.  Let things happen naturally when they will. Is she moving to CA?

USCIS released 3rd quarter I-485 statistics. Yes, I realize that in upper right corner it says 2018, but this was published under 2019 data. Seems like backlog reduction all across the board including SF.

That looks very quaint. Enjoy the dino fossil museum and hopefully pleasant weather. Hopefully family won't mind the edgy shirts.

A prolapsing lump of usually human flesh or skin covered silicone or saline due typically insufficiently large garment that meant to both cover and hold it in place. Visible from the bottom. Sideboob is far more common and socially acceptable variation of it when skin is visible from the side of the body.

I would guess some of those matters have less to do with "offending delicate sensibilities of gentle users" and more with this site, to the best of my knowledge, is entirely advertisement supported, and they do not want to be blacklisted by cruel AI from lucrative ad streams for too much flesh tone coloured images as that would directly affect revenue. I recall at least few invasions where out right soft porn was posted, and showed up on the title page as "recent images" That probably made for a fun night for mods/admins.

Thank you so so much for your in-depth explanation, I really appreciate it. It makes so much more sense now that they "misplaced" our marriage certificate since it could have been nothing but human error when answering the questions.

It looks like I have to do way more research on this process and not doing so in the first place is my fault (should not have assumed that they are similar). You have put my anxiety to rest.

This was most likely not RFE but "RFIE" Request for Initial evidence. The intake process for I-485 appears to be quite different from I-129F you are familiar with. In order to streamline application processing, they have contractors that open up your package very soon after it is received (about a month or so) those contractors are NOT USCIS officers, and in fact might not be even directly employed by USCIS, instead they have a very specific checklist of things they are suppose to validate in your package, and answer about 100 or so "Yes/No" questions accordingly. If they answer does not match what computer expects, the RFIE is generated. All that happens before USCIS officers ever takes a look at your form, which likely won't happen until it is transferred to your local field office.
    Checklist Example here (tiny exert)

The low date for I-485 is when 50% of the application are processed (doesn't mean approved) and I think upper is when 93% are approved. So yes, half of the people see approval before the first date.
