Eruthos got a reaction from Mike E in I-751 May 2020 Filers
I had my N-400 interview today in the Fairfax, VA ("Washington D.C.") office, and took my wife with me. Upon entry you first go through a security checkpoint where they do not ask why you are there, so my wife and I just walked in. After that someone saw my binder with all information we have previously submitted, and asked "Interview?", and pointed us towards the elevator to the second floor. At the registration counter I showed my N-400 interview invitation and told the attendant that my I-751 is also still pending, so I brought my wife, and she replied "It's possible he will make it a combination interview then.". After only a few minutes the officer came to get me and my wife, and I explained that I brought my wife in case he would like to also go over the I-751 stuff, and he says "that would make sense, especially since she is here already and then we can take care of all that in one go". We first did the N-400 interview itself, going over the form, adjusting small things (our address was updated based on automated USPS system feedback), going through all the yes/no questions, and he asked me 6 questions which I all answered correctly (he asked me "Who is the father of our nation", "name one of the branches of government", "what happened at the constitutional convention", "what date are taxes due", and two others I forget..). I had to read a sentence (Who is Abraham Lincoln), and write "Lincoln was the president during the civil war". We then went on to the I-751 part, he asked some basic questions to my wife such as "how did you meet, how did you start dating, did he propose to you, why did you get married?", and then he asked me "when did you get married, why were you the one proposing". He asked if I wanted to add any other evidence, and I told him I had some additional pictures (13 printed on two letter pages), and he would add those to our file. He said we were approved for both I-751 and N-400, and that I'd receive a notice for the Oath of Allegiance ceremony very soon! I can't wait, finally done with all this bureaucratic red tape!

On Nov 16th my N-400 interview got scheduled for Dec 21st in the DC (Fairfax) office, yay! No word on the I-751 at all though, and two calls to the USCIS Contact Center didn’t do anything. I requested to be connected to a Tier 2 officer so they can give it a closer look but was refused, twice, since “they can’t do anything at this point unless your case is outside of the current processing time, which it is not”… the inefficiency at USCIS is baffling honestly. Scheduling the two interviews at the same time would save so much time for both them and us.

Perhaps contacting our congressperson to inquire about this, and review the “inefficiencies at USCIS”, may be the next option?

I got my N-400 interview scheduled for Dec 21st in Fairfax (I filed in April 2021), but am also still waiting for the I-751… I wish they did both at the same time!

Just got off the phone with USCIS, and was told that a Request for Interview Scheduling was made on 09/01/2021.. Now just to wait before they actually schedule it I guess...! No word on my I-751 though, hopefully they would process both at the same time, same interview.

I applied online last night, pretty easy if you ask me! Hopefully they'll expand it to all forms soon. Fingers crossed the process is quicker than the current 12-15 months for my area (Washington DC).

Ha, mine expires on the 24th as well! I believe his status is still fine even after expiration as long as you had filed I-751, the only thing is travel outside of the US won't be possible. "Luckily" we can't do that much with COVID right now anyway......

I'm kind of confused right now.. I called the USCIS number, got connected to one of those robots you can talk to, and got connected to the "USCIS Contact Center" immediately. The lady was not helpful there at all, said I should email the lockbox (which I did) and await reply. She was not able to connect me to a tier 2 officer regarding this.. Has anyone else had this???

The bad news on my side first: I also have not received the NOA yet, and I just put in a request for that and the automatic confirmation said I should hear something on July 8th. I have until July 24th until my GC expires.. I guess we'll see....! Some GOOD news though: on June 12th my fingerprints were added to my case, so I will likely not have to go and get my biometrics taken.. yay!

I just got my notification by text that my case was received. I'm pretty sure this won't be done by May/June next year, so I'll likely file for naturalization before my green card is approved again.

We had our interview yesterday as well! We got there 30 minutes early, went through security (we were able to bring our cell phones in, although on silent), and got up to the interview waiting area 15 minutes before our scheduled time. We got called in 5 minutes after our scheduled time, the officer swore us in, took our IDs (driver's license, passport, EAD/AP combo card), scanned our driver's licenses and combo card for the system and updated our new address in the system (even though we had sent in an update of address, not everything had actually updated in the system).

She had our whole folder right in front of her and started going through it, updating any information. She asked my wife questions about where we live, asked me where we live, what the names of our in-laws are, how we met. She asked for additional thing we would like to add to the file such as bank records, insurance records, etc. We also showed her a photobook with our wedding pictures (which the officer loved) and after going through all the security questions (that are also on the form, she just wanted to double check under oath..) she said we were done and would hear a final decision within 30 days.

30 minutes after stepping out of the officer's office we got a notification that we had an update on our case: "Card is in production"!!!

Thank you all for the updates, for the tips, for everything. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

I called USCIS today to check up on the status of my I-485 case. When I was in the process of expediting my combo card, the Tier 2 officer said my case was "ready to be scheduled for an interview" on October 5th, but it never got updated on the online tracking system. He said that if it didn't update in January (this month), to just call back and request for them to take a look. During my initial call, the call center person did not want to connect me to a Tier 2 officer and basically told me to "be patient and await my turn".. I called back a little while later and the next person immediately put my request in and I got a callback after 3 hours. The Tier 2 officer was very friendly, looked at my case, and told me that my case was still pending, nothing changed, but that the current processing time at my field office (Washington DC) for family based adjustment was "45 days from now", and that I would be hearing something from USCIS by mail very soon. I am not sure if she meant that I will get a letter in ~45 days, or that I will have my interview in ~45 days. In my excitement I forgot to ask for clarification, but oh well.. that's good news to me! Hopefully this gives others here some hope as well :)!!
