The CO is only interested in the answer to the question "can the petitioner support the beneficiary so that they will not become a ward of the state". If the financial information that is provided by the petitioner can show any of the following then there is a reasonable chance there will be an approval of the financial question.

    1. Is the petitioner increasing his net worth with moving from one job to another all the while increasing his income.
    2. Is the petitioner a student who is graduating with a degree that would permit them to earn an income to support the beneficiary.
    3. Does the family support the petitioner in way that "if" the petitioner were to "stumble" could the family step in and carry the burden till the petitioner were to find stable income

Now having said that the caveat is that each embassy and each CO uses a different yardstick of measurements for these situations. Not all embassy's will abide by this logic but most do.

Here is what most embassy's are looking for to prove what we are talking about:

EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form (https://www.uscis.gov/i-134) K1/K2 Interview Preparation Instructions – English (February 2014)  Page 3 of 9 with an original signature will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be financially responsible for you. You should also submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank statements may be included to substantiate the I-134. Get the IRS transcript in place of the actual 1040 here: https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript Use this link to determine the income levels needed https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p.

Personal note to the April Filers who are now in transit.

    1. You'll did a good job. You got to this point following tips from the first post and from your friends here in this thread. To those who helped along the way I would like to give a big shout out to you for your help. But we failed together to get the word out to others who didn't have such a smooth trip. Let's do better when we move onto the next thread. GREENBAUM, what next thread?

    2. You all should be in your sub-forum for you regions or countries. There are so many more people there that know the ins and outs, the short cuts and are willing to share them with you. All you have to do is make the effort to find the thread so... Go up to the blue ribbon at the top of the page and select "forums" and scroll about 3/4 of the page down and you will see the links. Your participation in this thread is over. We can't help you anymore because we who are here are from Germany, Latvia, Cuba, Mexico and other country's too many to list. We can't help you. We are trying to get our arms around our own embassy requirements and we haven't taken the time to know yours. Good luck and we all wish you Gods Speed to your visa.

    3. I'm chuckling to my self because I have only had one person ask me for the P3 for their country. That one person read all the way through the "buckle up" post I made. His life just got way easier while you are here asking duh what do I do now.  Sorry, just had to laugh.

    4. During this whole trip you have made it so hard on yourself. Calling to USCIS and NVC from home your fiancé's home and wasting all that time. When in the end USCIS gave you what you asked for and that was a answer to your application. The NOA2! Then you went on the hunt for the case number which most embassies don't let you schedule ahead till you have the case number in letter/paper form. So what kind of unneeded stress to you place on yourself. Did you move the needle on your case. MAYBE a week. I hope you have a little more willpower when you apply for your AOS.

    So to my April friends...
adiós, adieu, addio, adeus. ... aloha. ... arrivederci. ... ciao. ... auf Wiedersehen. ... au revoir. ... bon voyage. ... sayonara.
and all the best to you. Safe travels.

VIP_LadyLuck reacted to Greenbaum in K1 visa processing
Just about everyone goes through this process.  Based on the discussions I had with the case officer (at USEM) he informed me of the steps to complete the processing of your visa:

the first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa
the first ready is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance
the second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork
the second ready is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery

Then "issue" is posted and the visa has left the BIG house to YOUR house.

Once you get that second ready, it should be sent out within a few days, although we received our visa before any of the various websites that allow you to look up the status said that it had been sent out.

Your processing is normal. There is nothing more you can do at this point but wait till your ceac changes to "issued" then in a few days 2go will make the delivery.

What does it say in the seatbelt post? Read it one more time but go slow so you don't miss your answer.

Even when I think i have anticipated every question that you'll ask for this step I get people who still ask the question when the answer is right there. Sometimes I think I'll help them to notice that something that is in bold text, it must be important.  Oy Vey. Hand palm to the forehead.

Today is a big day for some as your case file may ship out to your embassy. Check CEAC for updated progress and look for "in transit"!! If that shows you are on your way. Shipments are throughout today and tomorrow so don't get discourage if your record at CEAC has not changed over to "in transit” Also, for those who want to have a little fun in tracking your shipment see the DHL hack on the first page of this thread NUMBER 19 for instructions. NOTE: The DHL hack information will not be available till Wednesday as the DHL and NVC computers must sync with each other to produce the outcome.

You have three stages 1) in transit - shipment is in the air or soon will be, 2) received - physical case file is at the Embassy and 3) ready - your case is ready to schedule and complete your interview.  These will be your current state or status to your case file once you have received the case number. Once your record is set to "ready" you are ready to proceed in processing your next steps as listed in your P3 for your embassy.  I have most P3 if you hit me up with a request, I will post back the links.

Please don't screenshot and post your CEAC status as it just clutters up the thread. We all know what it looks like. Let us know your progress as we want to celebrate with you. Good luck.

VIP_LadyLuck reacted to AdamAndRV in SLEC Medical Examination 2018 Experience
I would like to share my recent medical examination (ME) experience at St. Luke’s Medical Center Extension Clinic (SLEC) at 1177 Jorge Bacobo Street, Ermita, Manila (Philippines) for CR1 - US Visa to give you a peek, knowledge and understanding of what happened to me inside. Since I am not from Manila and SLEC is the only medical facility for a US Visa ME, I emailed them for my queries and waited for their response before I filed my leave of absence at work and booked my flight to Manila. After 2 days, I got their response that female applicants may now undergo ME even during their period.

Though an online appointment with SLEC was not necessary (since they operate on a first come, first serve basis) I made sure to accomplish my US Immigrant Visa - Online Registration to reduce registration time. Me and my mom arrived around 4p.m. in Manila, a day before my scheduled ME and we stayed in a hotel 6 mins. away from SLEC.

    DAY 1
04:45 am →  Me and my mom arrived at SLEC. I was approximately the 50th person in line
05:00 am →  Two guards opened the entrance door & started accepting applicants
05:35 am →  When it was my turn, I handed my organized documents to the guard. He took two (2) NVC Interview Letter, one (1) photocopy of my passport biographic/data page, four (2) 2x2 visa photos with my full name written at the back of each photo (make sure you have the neutral facial expression in your photos otherwise the guard will ask you to submit another photos/ this visa photo guide will help you ---> http://www.slec.ph/img/us_photo_guide.png), one (1) copy of the SLEC online registration confirmation and my passport
05:45 am →  The guard stamped my papers and handed them back to me with the number 14 (small rectangle green card) on top. He stamped the back of my right hand with “SLEC A”. He checked my bag and saw the bottler of water and small biscuits that I packed. I was allowed to keep the bottle of water but he asked me to leave the biscuits (since foods are not allowed inside) so I gave it to my mom. Good thing, we already ate before we went to the clinic. I was the only one allowed inside and my mom had to wait outside the clinic. But don’t worry, SLEC has a waiting area for your relatives who accompanied you
06:00 am →  Reception Counters at the ground floor started to open. They started calling out numbers & colors. I saw three different colors, mine is green, some are blue and some are red. It was pretty cold inside but I had my jacket to keep me warm.
06:15 am →  When it was my turn, I gave the receptionist all the documents and he started asking me questions (is this your first time at SLEC, complete name, date of birth, educational attainment, civil status, occupation, last country visited etc.) After that, he took my photo and fingerprint scan. Then he instructed me on what to do next, handed me my PDS form with my patient number and passport back
06:20 am →  I went to the 5th floor to pay the Medical Examination Fee at the Cashier. It was still closed when I got there. The lady guard took the PDS form, instructed me to sit at the waiting area and wait for my name to be called
06:35 am →  Lady guard called my name, gave me my PDS form. I handed my PDS from, passport and P17,025.00 to the cashier. SLEC doesn’t accept checks, credit nor debit cards for payment. The cashier instructed me what to do next, gave me my passport, receipt for the fee and PDS form.
07:12 am →  I went to the 3rd floor for the X-ray. I handed my PDS form, receipt and passport. The nurse asked me to read, sign a waiver and/or consent and fill out all items she checked. She asked me to write the date of the last first day of my period. I returned it to the nurse and waited for my name to be called.
07:20 am →  The nurse called my name, gave me my documents (PDS form, receipt, passport and radiology number), instructed to me go to radiology room, take my shirt, bra, jewelries off, wear the hospital gown and make sure my long hair is tied up. There are seats inside the x-ray changing room and I waited there for my number to be called.
07:25 am →  It was my turn, the radiographer took my documents and asked me a series of questions (full name, date of birth, educational attainment etc). She then asked me to stand in front of the x-ray unit positioned at my chest level, placed both my hands on my hips and hold the pad, roll my shoulders forward, lift my chin and take a deeeeeeeep breath, exhale and then another deeeeeep breath. That was it and I was done. She asked me to take my documents which she placed on the chair, change my clothes and go to Laboratory.
07:37 am →  I went to the Laboratory at the 4th floor for my blood and urine tests. I handed the nurse my PDS form, receipt and passport. She gave a paper to read and sign (consent/waiver document). I returned it to her, took a seat and I waited for my name to be called.
07:45 am →  It was my turn, the nurse returned my documents and asked me to scan my finger. She lead me to the laboratory room where I waited for a few minutes. I gave my documents (PDS, receipt and passport) to the nurse, she scanned my finger and took my blood sample to be analyzed for many things. She returned my documents and instructed me to go to the first door at the right side for the urine test.
08:00 am →  I drank the bottle of water I brought with me before the blood test so by this time, I was ready to pee. I handed my documents (PDS, receipt and passport) to the nurse, she asked me when was the last first day of my period and what was the time when I last peed. She gave me a clean sterile container to collect my urine sample. There was a line drawn on the cup, she instructed me to fill the cup up to that level line (do not add water if you did not reach the level line and if it exceeds just let it be) cover the container, if you get anything on the outside of the cup, wipe it off with toilet paper. After I collected my urine sample, the nurse asked me to place it on the round tray with my name on it. I washed my hands and went out of the room. She handed me my documents back and instructed me on what to do next
08:00 am →  I went to the 2nd floor for the immunization interview, I submitted my documents (PDS, receipt and passport) to the man at the immunization reception. He gave me a form to read and sign. I returned it to him, took a seat and waited for my name to be called.
08:40 am →  After the long wait, my name was finally called, I went to the reception area where the man gave me my documents back then I was lead to the immunization interview room. The doctor asked for my finger scan and she asked me a lot of questions. It was quick though.
09:00 am →  I went to the 5th floor and submitted my documents to the nurse at the vital signs counter. I waited for my name to be called. When it was my turn, she took my weight measurement, temperature, blood pressure and then asked me to go to another room where my height measurement and eye test were taken. Then they forwarded my documents to the US Counter and instructed me to wait for my name to be called.
09:25 am →  US Counter called my name, the lady handed me my documents with number 7 (Room 8) attached. She instructed me to wait outside the room.
09:40 am →  I was called by the doctor inside the physical test room, I handed her my documents and she asked for my finger scan. She asked me to sign a document stating that I have not given birth nor had any pregnancies and/or abortions. Then she asked me a series of questions (full name, date of birth, educational attainment, occupation, operations, hospitalizations, mental health etc… it was a lot of questions) and she types all of your answers in their database. She then asked me to take my clothes off (except for bra and underwear) and wear the hospital gown. She checked my throat and asked if I have other tattoos aside from the ones on my left arm. She then asked me to lie on the bed. By this time, my heart was pounding and the doctor felt it. She asked me if I am scared or nervous. I said I am scared that I will be asked to get totally naked. She smiled. Then she asked me if I have given birth, I said no. Any pregnancies…… no.. she checked below my tummy and my back and legs. And that was it. She returned my documents and instructed me to submit them to US Counter outside.
10:30am →  I submitted my documents to the US Counter and after 10 minutes, my name was called. The lady instructed me to return tomorrow at 9:00 am for immunization and collection of my medical examination result. She returned my receipt which was stamped 9:00 am at the back and my passport which was stamped and signed at the 2nd last page.

    DAY 2
08:30am →  I handed my documents (receipt and passport) to the guard at the entrance and he asked for my finger scan. He instructed me to leave my passport and receipt at counter A. I took a seat and waited for my name to be called
08:45am →  I heard my name was called and I was asked to wait on the 2nd floor for the immunization. Yeap, it was a super long wait… I took my phone and played games while waiting.
10:20am →  Finally, my name was called. I went inside the immunization room where I got my four (4) shots. The first two shots didn’t hurt but the third and last shots hurt so bad. The nurse told me to avoid becoming pregnant during the first 60 days from the date I got the vaccines.
10:45am →  I went to the ground floor - counter A and waited for my name to be called.
10:55am →  yhaayy I was called. The receptionist asked me to leave my passport on counter A and wait for my name to be called.
11:00am →  Counter F called my name. I went there and was greeted by a lady nurse. She asked me a series of questions (full name, date of birth, educational attainment, occupation, inteview date, husband’s name, my medication for my asthma, my last hospitalization etc) she then asked me to check my name and date of birth which were written on the CD of chest radiograph. Then she asked me to check the details written on the Vaccination Documentation Worksheet. Then she handed me the US Dept. Of State Form (Vaccination Record) which will be presented for application of work in the USA. Then she gave me a sealed short brown envelope with the huge warning “DO NOT OPEN” written on it. This will be brought at the time of interview and only the consular officer has the right to open it. Then she stamped the 2nd last page of my passport and signed it.

Before you leave SLEC, make sure you have your passport, official receipt, CD, sealed brown envelope and your vaccination record (Vaccination Documentation Worksheet).

The whole medical examination process was exhausting yet I am so glad everything turned out well. It was such a wonderful experience. If you are about to do your medical examination. I am wishing and praying it will turn out well too. I hope this post helps.

Our interview appointment was at 7:10 am.  We arrived about 6 am and stood in the 7:10 line.  I forgot my watch at home so I’m not able to give the exact times of the step by step process.

We start the process about 6:30 outside when my fiancé was  are asked to put her passport in a ziploc bag.  Then she were asked for the DS-160 and they looked for my fiancé’s name and put a sticker on her DS-160.  My fiancé goes thru the foreigner door and my daughter and I go thru the US Citizens side.  We sat in the chairs outside for about 5 minutes before we all got in line to go inside the Embassy.

Once inside we did the bag check and went to our designated area.  When it was our turn we went to the 1st pre-screen window.  The lady at the pre-screen window even asked me some questions  and I seen from the packet in front of her she had everything I mailed in our I-129f packet.  After the pre-screen we sat down a bit then my fiancé  went to the finger scan window.

After the finger scan we sat and waited in the interview area.  People with odd numbers on their sticker went to one side and even numbers went to the other.  When it was our turn to be interviewed the Counsular asked if our daughter was my biological daughter and if she had her US passport then he politely instructed me to sit down and if he needed anything from me then he would send for me.  I gave my fiancé a HUGE folder with a lot of supporting documents.  I sat down maybe for 2 minutes and here comes my fiancé with a HUGE smile on her face.  APPROVED!!!!  He did not ask for one piece of paper.  My fiancé said he asked her 4 questions:  was she ever married, was I ever married, what is my work and do our daughter have US Citizenship..

When we left the Embassy it was 8:05 am.  So the interview process took about 1 hour and we was back in time at our hotel for the free breakfast buffet, lol.

Alright, I decided to write about my full experience here. I apologize if it's gonna be too long.
I come from Italy and I'm engaged to an American citizen. We sent our petition in December and we got our NOA1 on December the 19th.
I decided to visit him for 2 and a half months since I'm currently unemployed and let's be honest, being apart sucks, so I decided to risk it.
I left 2 days ago and no matter how prepared I was, as soon as I landed and reached customs, I started shaking (thank you social anxiety ❤️).
    Anyways, this is what happened:
    - Purpose of your visit? I'm here to visit my man
    - How long are you gonna stay? I leave on June the 8th
    - Have you ever been in the US before? Yes, last year for 3 weeks
    - When are you getting married? We don't know yet
    - Do you have a job? I'm currently unemployed but I have to be at home by mid/the end of June cause I'll start working again
It was at that point that the officer told me: "Alright, please collect your bags and wait in that room over there". "Here we go..." I thought, but somehow I managed to calm down. I felt doomed but confident at the same time, cause I knew they had no real reason to deny me.
Back to the room, two officers started searching through my bags and they told me to take a seat.
They asked me if I had any money with me and I said around 40$ in cash, they asked my where I was keeping them (biggest bag) and if I was carrying any guns with me, blunt objects or illegal items , which of course I wasn't carrying, so I said "No, none of them".
After a couple minutes, the guy I met at POE (let's call him officer n.1) told me to stand up and get closer. He kept looking at my passport, at me and he kept writing stuff on the computer. He asked me several questions like:
    - Have you ever been to the US before? (Again) Yes, last September, from the 29th to the 19th of October
At this point another officer gave him the giant pack of documents I brought with me (complete K-1 application, NOA1 receipt, travel medical insurance, return ticket + itinerary, medical certificate translated, ESTA, etc.) and he only scrolled through the bookmarks I put on each different type of document.
    - So, you said you have a boyfriend or fiancé, which one? Fiancé, we got engaged last October while I was visiting
    - How long do you intend to stay? (I know, again) I leave on June the 8th and I'll be back in Italy the 9th
    - You mentioned something about being back to work in late June...? Yes, I'm currently unemployed but mine it's a seasonal job so we only work during certain periods each year.
    - I see. Did you applied for ESTA?  Of course I did, last year before visiting
    - Are you gonna marry this guy? Any plans? One day sir for sure, but certainly not now. We can't really make any plans since we are still waiting for our NOA2.
    - Right, cause you know you can't get married on this trip. Yes sir, of course not.
    - Are you gonna get married in the US? Mmmm, well I know that if you apply for a K-1 you have to marry within 90 days upon arrival in the US so yes, we are gonna get married here.
    - Are you gonna celebrate the weddings outside the US? I'm not sure about that, but since my brother can't stand airplanes, we might consider getting married in Italy too cause I'm afraid my brother won't be able to attend the ceremony here.
    - You got your NOA1, waiting for NOA2, so what now? What are you gonna do? Well, there's really not much we can do for now. We just need to be patient and wait till we reach the next steps
At that point, another officer showed me my e-cigarette and asked me what kind of liquid was that. I didn't understand what he meant at first so I stared at him with a puzzled look on my face so he asked:"Does this contain marijuana or something?" and I answered:"Oh! No no, no marijuana!" , smiling cause I really didn't expect that kind of question.
Officer n.1 was done and he stamped my passport, but I didn't get to see the stamp so I felt a little dejected cause I really thought it went poorly and it was all my fault for being too nervous.
I was already thinking about having to pack my bags again and have another 9 + 2 hours long fly back home, when one fo them found a notebook I brought with me. He handed it to officer n.1 telling him :"It's in Italian but there's something written in English ". I panicked for a second but then I remembered I left a list I made for the trip. Officer n.1 then asked me:"Did anybody help you organizing this trip?" So I said "No, I'm here by myself so I took care of everything", but then he asked:" Cause I see you wrote "ties to home country" on this sheet" so I told him:"Oh yes, cause before the trip I went on Visa Journey to try and find some infos about which documents I should have brought with me in case I visited while on the K-1 visa ". He was done but the other two officers were still searching through my bags and they found the two copies of my passport (hey you never know! If I lose it at least I have some backups!) so one of them asked:"You've been in Canada?" (I thought: "Oh man, it's a long story PLEASE don't ask anymore questions about it! 😭 I just want to leave!") "Uh yes, in 2013", and FORTUNATELY that was it.
He already had my passport stamped for a while at that point, so I felt like I had nothing to lose anymore and I was mentally swearing at myself for bringing that damned list with me,  BUT... as I wrote in another thread, officer n.1 told me:"You were a little nervous today" (Yes, cause I'm terrified of you guys! 😫) and I answered:"Heh, I know...I'm sorry, I'm just very tired" .....SO..... after an overly dramatic suspance which I did not appreciate, he handed me my passport and said: "You're good to go" and all of a sudden he was smiling and the other two guys turned from badass scary bad cops into friendly buddies you meet at the bar.
Before I left, one of them said:" You're gonna end up on that TLC show... (he meant "90 days fiancé")" so I said:"Oh god no please! Don't even get me started on that... it's just plain stupid" and they all started laughing. Last thing they told me was:"Say hello to your boyfriend!" and then I left.
First thing I did as soon as I was in my fiance's arms, was CRYING and CRYING and CRYING again 😅 but hey, the important thing is that we are together till June now 😍 passport stamped in hand for 90 days (even tho I leave sooner) and the chance to spend time with my man while waiting for NOA2.

Guys, I don't know what to suggest, so if you're patient enough to read the entire story, you can come up with your own conclusions. Based on your personal interpretation, my experience can either discourage you from trying (it is VERY stressful and nerve-wracking) or give you some hope cause in the end, if someone as clumsy and socially awkward as me got to pass, I think there's hope for everybody! 😉
Honesty is thing n.1 you need to "bring with you", even before any document, cause in the end that's the only thing that gets you through.
(Ok, great and professional officers on a lucky day too, but come on now).
Bye! Sorry abouth the lenght 😥

Generally no need for a lawyer at any stage of the immigration process, neither with the Visa, AOS, ROC or citizenship. Not sure why some people with straight-forward cases feel the need for a lawyer, but in the end it's up to each and everyone to decide if they want one or not.

Me and my husband have never used a lawyer and haven't received an RFE yet either.

You know one of the best tools that is better then a lawyer are the people here in each of the threads answering question because they are the ones with boots on the ground. You pick a topic and there will be someone who has experience what you are going through.  Most lawyers have never stood in front of an interview.  They have no idea what your feeling, that your nervous, you stomach is tied in knots, your palms are sweating but there are hundreds here on VJ who have. Most are here because they want to do this on their own. You can do this too.

Today is a big day for some as your case file may ship out to your embassy. Check CEAC for updated progress and look for "in transit"!! If that shows you are on your way. Shipments are throughout today and tomorrow so don't get discourage if your record at CEAC has not changed over to "in transit"  Also, for those who want to have a little fun in tracking your shipment see the DHL hack on the first page of this thread NUMBER 19 for instructions. NOTE: The DHL hack information will not be available till Wednesday as the DHL and NVC computers have to be sync with each other to produce the outcome.

You have three stages 1) transit - shipment is in the air or soon will be, 2) received - physical case file is at the Embassy and 3) ready - your case is ready to schedule and complete your interview.  These will be your current state or status to your case file once you have received the case number. Once your record is set to "ready" you are ready to proceed in processing your next steps as listed in your P3 for your embassy.  I have most P3 if you hit me up with a request I will post back the links.

Please don't screenshot and post your CEAC status as it just clutters up the thread. We all know what it looks like. Let us know your progress as we want to celebrate with you. Good luck.
