Your affidavit of support asks for INFORMATION from THREE tax returns.  For any or all years your income was below the filing threshold, simply hand write in the available space, "Not required to file.  Income below threshold."

I have searched for answers to visa questions on this forum and found very toxic responses to non-immigrant posts.
A random person asks questions about student visa for a (young) relative and the chances of obtaining such a visa. You know, WHAT THIS FORUM IS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS.
A large number of the responses attack the OP. ''Why WOULD you want to school in the US? ''Are their no schools in XYZ country?'' ''You wont get it because youre trying to defraud...''

It's absolutely ridiculous the way responders take offense on behalf of the CO or the Embassies and by extension.. the country. I know a lot of people look up to this country as a solution to their worries or a respite at least but responses are so condescending and vicious that i wonder what the aim is. To dissuade them from coming into the country or  just ridicule them for being ''unfortunate'' enough to have to apply for visas.

If i saw the vile on this platform, i wouldn't have registered when i did. But then, i'm in immigrant category so i didn't notice at all. I was mostly encouraged from every angle. So what is it? Everyone is criminal until an immigrant? It makes no sense.

Thank you Starkilla. I appreciate this response. You have surmised perfectly. I do take the useful responses just cant help be affected by the toxicity. I'll do better myself to ignore.

FWIW this should never be the case on the site.  When you run across behavior (that clearly crosses our TOS) please report it to a moderator so they can help.  VJ should be a welcoming family environment!

Sometimes people aren't prepared for type the answers they receive when not in their favor of getting a visa...shoot the messenger happens quite a lot on VJ and I have seen many posters turn around and insult respondents because they asked a relevant question (which the OP did not want to answer, but determined the depth of the advice they would receive if they had),  or verbally assault people just because it wasn't in agreement with what they thought, and then the entire thread spirals downwards from there.

Opinions are good too since they are generally based off of factual experience of the VJ member themselves, what they have seen as reported by others in the same situation, or knowledge of different immigration processes.

More people are helpful than not, and there is a wide breadth of information gleamed from very knowledgeable members here.  Are there the few that seem to revel in someone else's misery or enjoy belittling?  Sure---that's everywhere in life, not just on these forums.

Best thing is to weed out the factual information given in a thread, and absorb the well though-out opinions.

Not everyone is going to get along in a forum this size, and not everyone is going to view how someone says something the same way.   What one may see as rude, another will see it as straightforward.

Let's knock off the bickering and the attacks on the OP, please.  One more such post, and suspensions will follow.  Discuss the OP's general issue constructively, or don't post.

For every "toxic" post that you read I can post 1000 plus where the members have been helpful.

Also, we don't know what you consider toxic. Some people take anything opposite of what they want to hear as a negative response.

For example, a couple of years ago a person asked about what visa could they use to bring over their neice. We reaponded that there were no visas to sponsor neices and nephews. What resulted was the OP getting upset. The OP even went as far as to send me a message calling me a lonely American who doesn't know anytging about family. All I did was tell her/him there wasn't a way for them to bring over their sibling's daughter.

    Sometimes it goes both ways.

See, you're very rude. I dont suffer people like you gladly. You replied to MY POST. I didnt send this to your DM so my response to your response cannot be UNWARRANTED.

My post is about EVERY non-immigrant post and the toxicity they generate on this site. That you have concluded that i have '' absurd plans to get relatives over to the US is indeed foolish.''

If you get off being rude to people on this site, welcome. You will not pass that over with me. If you do not want anymore ''unwarranted'' replies, LEAVE OFF.

Again there’s a great deal of truth in what you’re saying. You’ll come across the following types of posts here from people; helpful ones where people will give you answers straight up pertaining to your question be it positive or negative, unrelated ones to your question where others magically become CBP/USCIS/or consular officers to get to make assumptions and judge you, and those who ask questions to further “decide” how to answer you. All you have to do is get the helpful ones and ignore the rest. It’s all behind the screen anyway.

That may work against you. Or it may not. Many young people in the past used family to pay for their trip and provided room and board for them so they can live in the US and find work. Which is illegal.

You hurdle is to prove you won't do the same.

If $160 is too much for you, have the family that will help you for the trip pay for it.

aside from the literal documents and fee required, you need a good reason to go, funds to support your stay, and proof that you're gonna go home at the end.

LisaRee reacted to pushbrk in Wait 1 year to file I-130 until I have a tax return that meets the requirement of support?
If you are back in the US and working now AND your current income is sufficient, none of your tax returns will have any bearing on whether you qualify, and you can just use the I-864EZ that has no asset questions.  Current income is how you qualify.  You also don't send any financial papers with the initial petitions.  If you haven't filed yet, you are quite likely to file another tax return before your process gets to the stage of providing an affidavit of support and tax return.  You'll document your current income with a pay stub, not a tax return.  There are no "how much did you make last year" questions, used in determining whether you qualify as sponsor.  If you made six figures each of the last three years and lost your job, those tax returns wouldn't help you qualify because you have no income.  It is also true that if you had no income the last three years but have a qualifying job NOW, you qualify.  There are a few Consulates that are picky about tax returns showing enough income but you aren't dealing with on of them.
