ohman got a reaction from Nayda in N400: Move to different state right after Biometrics
They might not process your change of address in time. Or they may. I would just do all your paperwork, wait to see where your interview is, and fly back for it if it is in LA. You can probably also ask that the interview is where you currently are living, but that may delay the process.

ohman got a reaction from Kiolas in N400: Move to different state right after Biometrics
I moved half way across the earth after biometrics. We just did the oath.
If you keep all your ducks in a row and make sure you are getting your mail you should be fine.

Your advice is incorrect. That is exactly what they need to do if they want to reschedule their interview. Since there is no requirement for the beneficiary to sign the letter, there is no reason why the petitioner cannot write and send the letter on behalf of the beneficiary. Here is the language in the invitation letter which refutes your advice.
"If for any reason you cannot keep this appointment, return this letter immediately to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officeaddress listed above with your explanation and a request for a new appointment, otherwise, no further action will be taken on your application."
Please, try to give accurate advice.

ohman reacted to Sarah&Facundo in My wife has been using a fake social number to work and now we are applying for a green card
I don't have a lot of particular information about this, but living in new york city, a LOT of my friends and coworkers have/had fake SSNs.
Some of these people hold green cards now....

ohman got a reaction from TNJ17 in Moving a few weeks after the interview?
You wont know when it is until after the interview. It is impossible to plan anything, i know. You will have to get the date after interview, and fly back for oath or whatever. The oath was the most difficult part for us lol. I do not really understand why you can't just put up your right arm after the interview if you pass, but who am i.

My wife received her N-445 with an oath ceremony scheduled for Sept 24th. Looks like we're in the final home stretch. We appreciate this open thread as it contains valuable info on what to do if you don't receive the oath ceremony notice and form N-445. Luckily we received an online version of the form.

I used regular service. The guy at the post office told me that the passport card is a real ID, don’t know if you you some states drivers licenses are not compliant so that’s why I opted for it. It was only $35 and it’s 10 years. In Massachusetts a drivers license cost $125 so it’s a good deal I think.

Same here. Mine said if you do not get oath ceremony letter by August 4th, contact us.
The ceremony was scheduled for July 25th was the problem.
Take home point if you are reading this: do not listen to the "if you do not get your oath ceremony letter by.." date. Also, do not listen to the operator when you call in for jot habing received the oath ceremony letter. She will tell you to wait one month. If we would have done that we would have missed the ceremony.

Haha fax. That's some good new technology there. Well, thank god you found out. As soon as I read your story I was suspicious of USCIS and the local office as it shouldn't be like pulling teeth to get the date of your oath ceremony. Good luck at the ceremony. You're in the home stretch.

Just ask to be transferred to an L2 officer. (Saying "escalate" is probably going to make the customer service person delay/question your need for a transfer as it kind of infers you're angry/complaining about something.). A L2 officer can actually look into the specifics of your case and confirm whether the letter has been mailed out as of yet.
If the person who answers the phone refuses to transfer you (for whatever reason), you have the luxury of just hanging up the phone and calling back to request the transfer from the next person.

You can try early in the morning, and some have said that their local offices make new appointment slots available at like 12:01 AM.
The problem with an infopass appt, especially one where 2 weeks would be the earliest date, is that you might be fighting against the time clock. I definitely see your concern because the whole "notice" and then later appointment letter is really an oddball way of arranging these interviews and ceremonies. Why not just identify the date of the appointment within the initial notice? It's crazy!
By the way, when you called, did you escalate to a Tier 2 agent?

Call USCIS and ask them why you haven't received the letter yet. By now, you should have already received the online version of the letter at: https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/
My wife received her n400 interview letter exactly one day after she received the "notice" that it was coming from an email and from her online account. Others have reported similar short durations between receiving the notice and the letter.
Two weeks is too long, and as your suspicions are telling you, if you wait around until August 4th to inquire about it, you might actually miss your actual oath ceremony.
If you can't get help through the USCIS phone support, you might want to make an infopass appointment at your local office and inquire about it, in person.
Good luck.

The green card is the only ID required for the interview.

About state ID, I can only speak for Georgia. It does take about a month to receive a state ID but they do issue a temporary paper ID on the spot that's valid for about 30 days.

I took the oath on July 3rd and I already have the passport! They don't ask for ID, just the naturalization certificate, 1 passport photo and the application filled out! That's it...since I'm traveling next week I got my passport expedited 1 one day!

I would get a state id before her ceremony or right after, then go get her passport. It's always nice to have some form of identification while your naturalization certificate is in transit for several weeks.
There will be a period where she is without any identification (other than her foreign passport if she has one), but getting a state ID right after (or before) closes that period by a few weeks if you don't expedite the passport.

Did she apply online or paper application?
If she applied for the N400 online, it will be in the documents tab in the EGOV website once it posts after the oath ceremony is actually scheduled.

Just last month my friend at work took the oath ceremony and did his passport on site. He filled out the form, submitted photos, and sent in his Naturalization certificate with the application( They return it to you). When I did my first passport application I was only required to send in my certified birth certificate because I was a USC. I just called to verify, and he said they never asked for his ID, just his Naturalization certificate. And he had his passport in 4 weeks. He also registered to vote on site, and they had people from the social security office updating your SS information to US citizen.

During her oath ceremony, she will have to turn the GC in...so she won't have it anymore.
When you apply for the passport, they need to see the original document PLUS retain a photocopy of said document...even if they did accept the photocopied GC as proof of identity (they wouldn't), she wouldn't have the original for them to verify the photocopy off of, anyhow.
She will be submitting her original naturalization certificate with her passport application---which serves as proof of citizenship and proof of identification.
Edited to add: You may want to encourage her at a later date to obtain a State ID....she should have something on her which identifies her, for a multitude of reasons--emergency or otherwise.

Her certificate of naturalization should work.
You may submit items such as the following containing your signature AND a photograph that is a good likeness of you: previous or current U.S. passport book; previous or current U.S. passport card; driver's license (not temporary or learner's license); Certificate of Naturalization; Certificate of Citizenship; military identification; or federal, state, or municipal government employee identification card. Temporary or altered documents are not acceptable.

Really double check if your wife keeps her Thai citizenship. A quick Google search brought me mixed results and I'm not knowledgeable enough. I know I lost my German citizenship at oath.
She should also update her status with the social security office. Not sure if your DMV requires an update too.
Congratulations on your wife's approval.
