Bringing minor children of US citizen
Dashinka replied to Elyann's topic in Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America
I was wondering the same thing. -
Why do you need to pursue your Masters/PhD immediately? Engineering with a BS is very lucrative in the US and elsewhere, and oftentimes if you get a good job, you can pursue a Masters at least with the company you are working for paying the bill. This being said, your OP was a little confusing, it seems as if your USC spouse is in the US and not located with you. I would focus on her petitioning you for a spousal visa (I agree with the others, an NIV such as a student visa, would be a waste of time and money), and then find a job, and look at continuing education later. You would be surprised how much real work experience helps when continuing education as it may change your outlook and you may want to pursue an MBA instead of an MS/PhD in engineering. I am an engineer as well, got a job with a good company, and then took that route. Good Luck!

Kinds of dovetails off the BB article above, which is fairly realistic. My wife often times reminds me of how it was like growing up and living under socialist rule in the USSR (yes, the USSR was a socialist system run by Communists) and it was not very nice. Now when the USSR fell, chaos reigned which was not much better, but that has subsided some except for the ability of folks like Putin to gain power. The US and the West could have done more to integrate the former Soviet Union into society, with its vast natural resources, and massive land area, but we did not and instead treated the newly formed Russia as a continuing enemy. Whatever, it is what it is. No, Socialism Is Not Neighborliness The Democrat vice presidential nominee Tim Walz entered the national scene with a passive-aggressive endorsement of government-run economic activity. “One person’s socialism,” the Minnesota governor quipped, “is another person’s neighborliness.” It’s easy for Walz to talk like that, living in a nation where markets allow for an unprecedented accumulation of wealth, food is plentiful, and citizens are comfortable in their standalone suburban homes. Having grown up in Soviet Ukraine, however, I happen to know that socialism does not encourage neighborliness. First, there is the issue of socialist neighborhoods themselves. In the decades following the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, Soviet leadership forcefully industrialized the backward and rural Russian Empire. The process was as murderous as it was successful: in the few short years of collectivist agriculture, Joseph Stalin diverted food from the countryside to the cities, starving millions. The Holodomor propelled the movement of farmers into urban centers where the USSR scrambled to create factory jobs. Because central planners neglected to design urban areas that would be ready to receive the inflow, the new arrivals ended up clustered in crowded kommunalkas, or communal apartments. It was not unusual for multiple families to share a room, and the number of rooms per apartment could be in the double digits. Some even slept under staircases, Harry Potter–style. https://rlo.acton.org/archives/125802-no-socialism-is-not-neighborliness.html

I see Korea now has an optional ETA if entering on a US passport. I have not been there since 2019, so this is new for me. I was wondering if anyone thought it was worth getting the ETA? Does it help with getting through passport control faster?

I would not worry about texts and affidavits for filing the I130. You can bring those to the interview in case the CO asks you to provide more evidence. I should note though that it wouldn't hurt to include them with the filing, and make sure the affidavits are notarized. Good Luck!

Overall in this case Disney has a point that the restaurant is not their operation (not sure about licensing etc.), and it appears to be a reach for deep pockets. But this case does uncover that fine print that says anyone wishing to sue Disney for something that may be directly tied to them (getting injured on a park ride, etc.) cannot go after them as they accepted some set of terms saying so. I do wonder how many other companies have that clause in their terms.

In the end it is really up to you and your wife. Immigration is difficult, and separations oftentimes are unavoidable when a goal is decided. If you live in a border region you may be able to blunt some of that, but it is really dependent on your priorities. If no separation is desired, it looks like the only option is to wait out the bar and then see if you can get a similar offer in 8-9 years. If you are willing to deal with some separation (dependent on your specific situation), you could get the employment GC now, file for your spouse as an F2A and potentially get her here in 5-6 years. Overall, there is not much difference in the timing. Good Luck!

Kind of makes you think when accepting all the terms in the fine print when signing up for something. Note: if the moderators think this belongs in CEHST, feel free to move it. Disney Responds to Wrongful Death Lawsuit Fury—'Merely Defending Ourselves' According to the lawsuit, physician Tangsuan informed the waiter serving her, Piccolo, and her mother-in-law that she was severely allergic to nuts and dairy, and sought confirmation that a range of items from the menu were free of allergens. Per the suit, despite assurances that the food ordered was allergen-free, Tangsuan experienced a severe allergic reaction to the food and later died. Months after the lawsuit was filed, Disney recently claimed that it should be removed from the court because Piccolo agreed to arbitration of all disputes with Disney when he signed up for a one-month trial of the Disney+ streaming service in 2019. Disney states in court documents that Disney+ terms and conditions say all disputes must go to binding, third-party arbitration and not to court. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/disney-responds-to-wrongful-death-lawsuit-fury-merely-defending-ourselves/ar-AA1oQ8Ol

This could be bad. Every American's Social Security number, address may have been stolen in hack After a group of hackers claimed to have stolen personal information several months ago from a data broker, a member of the group reportedly shared most of the sensitive data on an online forum for stolen data. The data includes 2.7 billion records of personal information from Americans including their Social Security numbers and physical addresses, Engadget reported, citing Bleeping Computer. Who is behind the data theft? A hacking group called USDoD claimed in April to have stolen personal records from National Public Data in a massive data breach. The NPD is a platform that offers personal information to employers, private investigators, staffing agencies and others doing background checks, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing a class-action lawsuit filed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. https://www.yahoo.com/news/every-americans-social-security-number-163724751.html

Follow your plan as laid out right now. Have his employer provide a letter or something similar showing he has a job waiting for him, and file the AOS/EAD package ASAP as soon as you have the marriage certificate in hand (you can start getting the forms filled out now). Then request an expedite for the EAD after you get the receipt NOA. You can also contact your House member or Senator to help push the EAD expedite. Good Luck! https://www.uscis.gov/forms/filing-guidance/expedite-requests

Seems regressive. Documents Reveal How George Soros Controls Prosecutors The Media Research Center obtained nearly 8,000 pages of internal documents through public records laws that show how a Soros-funded group called Fair and Just Prosecution (FJP) “directed Soros prosecutors to manipulate the rule of law concerning illegal immigration, drugs, abortion, election integrity, capital punishment and laws against childhood sex changes.” MRC’s yearlong investigation suggests that Soros maintained influence over his chosen candidates after their elections were over. FJP had the Soros-backed attorneys sign 33 pledges to not enforce certain laws — including election integrity measures and immigration laws — and attend more than 50 meetings or “convenings,” some of which were “mandatory.” FJP pressed prosecutors to let criminals off the hook if they are black, having them pledge to “reduc[e] racial disparities in case outcomes by at least 20%.” https://www.dailywire.com/news/documents-reveal-how-george-soros-controls-prosecutors
