  1. The 70's. Went to high school then university. Had a great girlfriend. Discovered drinking and sex. Suppose one lead to the other. Then the 80's. Great music that I still listen to. Went to professional school and made the best forever lasting close friends. Started a family. This decade is great too. Have young grandchildren. Saved up a bunch of money and can retire at any time now.
  2. Keep calm and drill baby drill. That's been my mantra for my entire working life.
  3. A better and more detailed local news article. https://www.flkeysnews.com/news/local/article291225705.html
  4. Sheriff: 5 jailed in Keys part of ‘very well organized’ human trafficking operation https://www.local10.com/news/local/2024/08/21/sheriff-5-jailed-in-keys-part-of-very-well-organized-human-trafficking-operation/ MARATHON, Fla. – Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay says four men and one woman arrested on smuggling charges in the Florida Keys are part of a sophisticated human trafficking operation. Ramsay’s agency announced the arrests on Tuesday. The quintet is accused of smuggling 13 Ecuadorian nationals and seven Chinese nationals into South Florida after the group landed via boat off County Road 905 in Key Largo. And here is the kicker: Ramsay said that local prosecutors are choosing to try the case because officials with the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to pursue charges. $20,000 each was the price to get to the US and then to NY and NJ I'm down here in the Keys this week but much closer to Key West. Just unbelievable that the US Attorney doesn't feel like pursuing charges.
  5. Ex-Mrs.-T-B sounds like a wonderful, terrific woman!
  6. I was talking to a guy yesterday (on an island in the FL Keys, yes really) that said his brother or cousin is a Secret Service agent. Says the real truth will never be made public but the belief is it was an inside job or at least there was assistance from within. Says watch now for Trumps family as they could be the next target.
  7. It's the same one night after night after night. You, on the other hand, have many almost every night.😜
  8. Hiding in the basement worked very well for Joe. I think Kamala's version could be called hiding in plain sight.
  9. I'm on VACATION!! We actually cut out a little early yesterday to start our trip down here to the Keys. Hope the boss doesn't fire me! LOL Once upon a time I was the boss, but since my wife arrived and started working in the office... well, you know the rest of the story. It's OK though because I'm sleeping with the boss. Just finished a little maintenance on the boat changing gear lube, and ready to put her in the water as soon as I get some lunch. Have some friends coming down later today and they will be staying until Saturday. We are here for a week and a half. No phone calls from grumpy patients. No alarm clock. Traffic yesterday was much lighter than usual. Got to enjoy it now because in a couple of months the snow birds will be arriving and it will be crazy busy. Time to eat and get out on the water.
  10. Another point about getting the SSN early. You have until the 76th day following the issue of the I-94 to apply for the SSN. After that you will have to wait until the EAD is issued to apply.
  11. I'm especially impressed with her work on her sole major task, fixing the problem on the southern boarder.
  12. I wasn't spied on but did get turned down when I was looking to change my insurance (in the Keys) recently. My house has a metal roof which is about the most resistant roof to hurricane winds and deterioration. Metal roofs typically last for 50 years or more, and mine is about 25 years old. I was told by the insurance company that it was too old. I just went ahead and dropped hurricane windstorm ins along with flood. Just ridiculously expensive.
  13. Hurricane? There was a hurricane? Well, we did get a LOT of rain. Had several inches in the street and our driveway. Also had a couple acre swamp in the back yard. Headed down to the Keys middle of next week for 10 days and of course on the news tonight they are predicting another system to be near the southern tip of FL by late next week. Might get exciting...
  14. Just tonight my wife yelled to me to come get a lizard out of the bathroom. We live in Florida and there are those little lizards everywhere. No big deal. Got him cornered and with a gentle pinch to the back I picked him up and took him outside. I've found if you don't take them outside they may live a week or two, then you find them dead and dried up in a corner.
  15. Seen that one before. Usually they have a girlfriend... Sorry to hear about all you are going through with Uncle T-B. I'm getting much the same with my 91 year old mother (I'll let you fix the p-math, ha). Her major problem now is her knees making it painful to walk, although she still pushes herself to go on 20 min walks 2x daily. She went to the doctor this week and he has convinced her she needs 2 knee replacements. Preparations are under way for her to get it done in 2 months after approval from her other doctors. She texted me today and this was the message "Y TV CD TV V C son Vu by B v Ben V zoo..." Still trying to come up with the translation.
  16. You know what they say, "You can put lipstick on a chimp, but..."
  17. OK, will get right on it grandpa.
  18. I've noticed a lot of your "too tired" and "too sick" for rubias posts lately. Maybe just too old? LOL
  19. Still hating my computer.
  20. I hate my computer.
  21. Correction: Whirlpool is not related to Frigidaire/Electrolux in any way. Separate companies, however Whirlpool does make Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana, and many of the Kenmore products among others.
  22. I should have said that Costco was great and there was no problem cancelling the order. I thought I had cancelled but they arrived to deliver the fridge. I said "you must not have gotten the message...." They said "no problem. We'll take care of it." And that was it.
  23. Just about 3 weeks ago we had an issue with our refrigerator. It's a French door fridge and the wife apparently didn't close one door all the way. Got up in the morning and heard a lot of noise from the fridge. Sounded like the compressor was working really hard, and it was loud. Talked with a friend that has an ac and appliance repair business and he thought it was freezing up and told me to unplug it for about 12 hours. Did that but nothing changed. Figured it would need a new compressor, but decided not to put that kind of money into an 8 year old Whirlpool (more about that in a bit) so very quickly ordered a new one from Costco that could be delivered in 3 days. Next morning I got up and noticed the fridge was quiet again and cooling fine. I hoped that by the time we returned from work it would be loud again to make me feel better about already ordering a new one. Nope, it was perfect when we returned home. Oh well, at least we will have a new, $1600 fridge. had to go to Lowes that night so I looked at fridges to see what I had ordered, another Whirlpool essentially the same as we had except they changed the ice maker and I hated the useless narrow shelves now on the door. Liked the similar LG better, but we had a bad experience with an LG washer. What to do? Discovered the ice maker in our fridge was no longer working and checked the error codes. Seems that was the source of our original problem. Ordered a new ice maker for $80 and installed it last weekend. Everything is great now. When we built this house 24 years ago it came with builder grade GE appliances, and maybe they were one step up from builder grade. The dish washer was garbage and I replaced that after one year. Never liked the side by side fridge. Freezer side was too narrow, and the ice maker was horrible. When we decided to replace it I checked Consumer Reports and they said the French door Samsung was the best, and that's what I bought. BIG mistake. Just after the warranty expired it died. Internal refrigerant leak and was advised to just by a new fridge. Went with the Whirlpool even though it wasn't top rated by Consumer Reports but it is made in the US and parts are easy to get. No real complaints. Seems like most manufacturers have trouble with ice makers. Thankfully it was easy to fix even with the "in the door" ice and water.
