N-400 filer. 3 year less 90 rule - or wait longer.

Our earliest filing for less 90 days would be late December. We have a trip plan ed in June 2026. I’m trying to figure out if we should apply late December or wait until after the trip. I’ve read several posts and there seems no way to know. If I do an internet-wide search they seem to indicate that the interview appointment letter takes 5-6 months to arrive. On Visa Journey it sounds like it only takes a month or two after sending the N-400 for the interview. Our nightmare would be submitting the N-400 then being scheduled for a June interview.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No way of knowing ahead. Unless your trip is urgent, just prioritize naturalization and hold off making any travel plans. After becoming a citizen, you can go anywhere for any amount of time.

True as @OldUser stated, it's hard to tell how long it might take to get an interview appointment letter as there's so many factors to consider and each case is unique. Also the field office and how busy they might be. I've been waiting for almost 6month come end of this month. I'd say prioritize what's important and what can wait. All the best @bolero_pa

Thanks for the advice. June is the only month that works for travel. We’ll have to prioritize that above filing the N-400. I need to research if there’s a problem about filing the N-400 5-6 months after the first time that we could file it. Becoming citizens ASAP isn’t critical.
