Hi everyone, 

My fiancée is a k1 visa holder. She just arrived in the US last Wednesday. I am planning to take her to social security administration office tomorrow to an apply for SSN, ID card, then getting married, then work permit. Any advice or suggestions? Thank you so much.

I assume when you say “work permit” you mean the I485 package.

Be aware that if you get ID before marriage, you may not be able to update the name after marriage before receiving the EAD.

To my knowledge, SSA requires appointments. No more walk in.

depending on the state, you may have to wait until you get the NOA1 for the I-485 before you can get her a state ID card.

I know we had to for michigan.

but this is correct you need to make an appointment for the SSN

After you get her SSN, get her on your banks account as joint holder, get her a debit card and both of you use that account for all your spending, bills, etc. (if possible with your financial setup). Also start getting her on utility bills, on your employer health insurance (after you're married if applicable). These are all good evidence of co-mingling your lives financially for the Adjustment of Status process. Our interviewing officer at USCIS said something along the lines of, "I see you pay everything out of your XXXXX Bank Checking Account." They look at these things closely. Also wills, medical power of attorney, etc. are all good things to have in general and make for good evidence on your AOS application.
