Hi all,

Posting on behalf of my brother.

He is planning to travel to the US to visit me and applied for an esta which was denied. He has strong ties to Ireland so dont understand reason for denial.

He has applied for the b2 visa. The expedited appointment is on Friday the 15 however he is meant to be flying the Thursday 10th.

What other ways is there to conract the embassy and asked to be put on cancelation list etc?

There’s no waiting list but he can keep checking for cancellations and see if an earlier appointment pops up.

But if his ESTA was denied I’d try and find out why first, as he’ll face the same issues for a B visa too. And if he applies for the B and is refused he’ll forever have to declare that denial.

Did he tick yes to any questions like travel to certain countries, any criminal record etc? Has he ever overstayed?

ESTA does not ask about strong ties, it does ask a lot of other questions.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Irrelevant for an ESTA application. He must've answered YES to a question that makes him ineligible. Only he knows what would cause this.

Flight on the 10th simply isn't happening with an interview on the 15th.

I double checked his application and he did not answer yes to any questions regarding conviction, overstay, etc..

These are the answers he gave so not sure why he is being denied

Agreed, flights should only be booked after visa in passport is issued.

He has had ESTA before, entered and left the US before under the VWP with no issue. He applied for his new esta thinking there would be no problem but was denied.

Understandable, still should have booked flights only after getting ESTA approved.

Good luck and keep us posted!

How long did he stay under the VWP previously and how long ago was his last trip?

Yes they were all truthful. He has only been to the US once on a trip 2 years ago. The only reason that might of flag him is he is leaving the US for a trip to Guatemala and Costa Rica and then back to Ireland
