I'm adjusting from K1 and I recently had my Biometrics appointment. Almost immediately after the appointment, I got a message from USCIS that simply says 'We have taken an action on your case. Sign in to your account to view your case status'.

So I signed in through the official website and it shows that both the Biometrics and Interview step have been checked off. I'm assuming this means they have waived the AOS interview? Or is it too soon to tell?

That's too bad! 😅 It says the estimated time is 14 months

But you know to look up your estimated processing time for any application on the processing times website instead, correct?

Is this a correlation vs. causation situation or is there documented evidence that blanket interviews are being required by the current administration?

a bit of both imo

i couldn't find the article but at one point the new pick to lead USCIS said interviews would be back to becoming standard for everyone, but i can't find anything confirming that

but also just a word of mouth situation of people hearing directly from officers at their interviews that all AOS applicants will have a mandatory interview.

from my understanding the waiving of interviews only became big during the Biden Administration and during COVID

before that all family based AOS applicants were interviewed.

being interviewed is supposed to be the norm lol

Got it. My wife was interviewed for AOS which was always the norm. I’ve never seen an AOS interview waived. Interviews for ROC however were frequently waived (as was my wife’s). The ROC interview has always seemed like a waste of resources for USCIS so I’m sure it was something that was reviewed when handling backlogged cases during COVID.

My neighbor recently had her AOS interview waived.  She came to the US via a B2 several years ago, then applied for asylum.  She married a US citizen and applied for Adjustment of Status last year.  Interview was waived about 3 months ago (February)....after new administration came in.

Your query about it being directly correlated to the current administration won't have a definitive answer without the needed transparency for it.  And USCIS is never known for being transparent, or even cognizant of their inaccuracies.  However, you can see the charted cases on this website.  Even with the small subset of members here as opposed to all immigration cases, you can see historically that in the 2023 and 2024, many interviews were waived for AOS.  I won't say all, but a considerable amount, and in my lazy assessment, dare I say most.

However the situation seems to have reversed according to VJ stats.  Although some interviews are still waived, there is a clear and definitive uptick in scheduled interview dates.  My partner in crime running the November stats @Edward and Jaycel (I run October applicants) can attest to a sharp uptick in scheduled interviews, beginning around the first week of February.  The number in that status surpassed the pace of approvals and hasn't come down yet.

Interviews are the rule now, and not the exception.

Without proof either way, I suggest it's better to restrict expectations on here.  And hope things turn out better than expected.

Most likely not. Assume interview will be required for all AOS applications. This was standard before covid.

Agreed, I had AOS before COVID. Interview being waived wasn't a thing at all.

hmm my husband came on K1 and the only interview he had was at the embassy for the initial K1 visa and then again for N-400.  He did not have an interview for AOS or ROC,  that was before Covid and Biden.
