Spouse visa interview question?

I heard stories about the beneficiary being ask how much does the petitioner makes .

Do we say what’s in the taxes since they will have it  ? Or the hourly or does it matter . I say this because they won’t know the hourly . Since it’s not on the financial papers. So can we say either one ?

i have not seen this posted or talked about

 

income income for the year is on the tax papers and listed on the I 864, W2's  and pay stub for the pay period (which can be weekly,  bi weekly,  2 times a month or monthly if retired)

immigrant would not know hourly,   but yearly is  what counts

I would probably go with the tax/yearly income because they are looking at guidelines that are expressed as yearly income, not hourly rate.

I would say "Approximately $60,000 a year".  Quoting to the exact dollar might appear to be "over coached".

State the amount shown on the I-864 as "current annual income".

Since I knew they had my copies of the tax transcrips I told my spouse to say what it showed in the total income on the tax records if they asked but they never asked about that.

I would Answer with either one, In my case (the Petitioner) they have both tax documents and my Employment Verification Letter which  my employer specified my hourly.

I honestly do not think they will ask about income, but if they do, best to tell them what they already know which is the amount on your taxes that you submitted.  As to the questions asked of my spouse - why did you return to Indonesia after you were in the US and got married, did you meet your husbands family, how many times did your spouse visit you in Indonesia, (8 times,) and then told him that the visa was approved and this time to stay in the US until his green card is delivered.  I think his interview was less than 10 minutes.

And they may or may not ask.  However, unless you are self employed, your tax return does NOT indicate your "current income".  That would come from the pay stub from which you calculated your current income.  What you state as your current income would be the answer to the OP's question.
