Hi guy June 5th my K1 petition got approved and i received the NOA2 June 11th, are me and my partner right in thinking that we now need to wait for the NVC to send us our case number? We are getting a little concerned about not receiving or heard anything from them yet and i want to get on with filling out my DS-160 which i cannot do without the case number. I have looked around the site for info on this but there appears to be quite outdated/conflicting information.
Does anyone know anything from recent history about this section of the process?

Thanks in advance guys.

Ps. We are using the UK embassy if that changes anything

You have to contact NVC to find out your case number. NVC only ever notifies you when they send the petition to the consulate, if you’d like to find out before that then you’ll have to send a public inquiry.

Typically up to 2 months for the NVC to send the package to the consulate.

There's useful information in the K1 progress report forum, specifically the June 2023 K1 to NOA2 post:

I received NOA2 on May 15 and still have not received our case number.  I e-mailed them and they said that they had received it, but it was still waiting to be entered into the system.

We received NOA2 and confirmation of DS160 on May 22.  Still nothing from the embassy en Buenos Aires.  Glad I found this site.  It's so difficult to fine clear information about the process.

Brad, did you use the number on your NOA2 to file your DS160 or did you use an NVC number?

I'm still trying to understand some of the terminology.  I got an I-797.  It has the reciept number as the initial petition that the lawyer sent.  I assume this is the NOA2?

That would be NOA1.  NOA2 is the second one you will receive that indicates approval or denial of the petition.

It took 4.5 months after NOA2 before our case was received by NVC and assigned a case number. So, those of you who received NOA2 in May, just wait patiently. All timelines are longer than usual.

I wonder why I've not seen these long times mentioned to everyone?  Even their website says 2 weeks to process at NVC.  This is absurdity if it's taking 4.5 months for a data entry job.

cause the long wait is to get to NVC, not for NVC to process.

I keep e-mailing through the inquiry form.  They respond in a few days.  The last response I got last week was to e-mail them again if it's been 60 days.  It's been 71 days since the approval date on the NOA2 and 63 since I received the letter in the mail.. so this is I think my 4th e-mail trying to get the case number.
