N400 Interview Questions and Document Checklist

Hi all,

 

I have my N400 interview in two weeks. Can someone please help me with the questions that will be asked and what documents I have to bring? 

 

I am studying for the 2008 test as I originally applied for N400 in October 2022. I am also studying my N400 application to make sure there aren't any contradictions. Also memorizing dates for when I left the country. 

 

I have seen on a vlog on YouTube that some applicants were asked vocabulary questions such as definitions of oath, genocide, separated, guerilla group, gambling, etc. Is this true? If so what is the source of this study material? How come I haven't seen this elsewhere? 

 

The documents that I intend to bring:

 

My passport

Green card

State ID

Spouse passport (for proof of US birth)

Wedding Certificate

Child Birth certificate

Tax transcripts

Bank statements

Joint insurance document

 

 

Am I missing anything else? Thanks!

Sometimes IO asks for certificate of natiralization or birth certificate for US citizen. Passport is not always enough to prove US birth.

 

Are you applying under 3 or 5 year rule? If former, then make sure to bring your US citizen spouse in case if USCIS want to interview him. Also remember all key dates and be ready to answer questions about your marital life.

That's a real bummer cause the BC is lost so we figured the US passport was sufficient. 

 

Applying under 3 year rule, spouse will be peesent. 

 

Can you advise about vocabulary definition questions please?

Nobody is asked definitions. 

No need to memorize dates you were in/ out of the country. 

Nobody can tell you exactly what will be asked. Some are done in 3 minutes, others take longer

Is spouse birth certificate required or will US passport suffice?

Legally you can  only be asked up to 10 of the 100 questions of the USCIS civics test. However we’ve a report this might where questions outside the prescribed list  have been asked.

U.S. birth certificate is preferred and sometimes required.  Probably the U.S. passport will suffice but legally USCIS can RFE for the birth certificate

You do know spouse can order replacement BC from state/county vital records, right?

Yes I've already ordered a replacement but it won't be arriving on time.

I hope so. In the n400 application I submitted passport as proof of citizenship. Hope it suffices here too.

Why can’t you get a  U.S. birth certificate?

All you need to do is to have your spouse go to the county/ clerk where vital record is kept and request a copy and within minutes it will be given. (Birth certificate)

Because YT is full of misinformation and distractions.   The best study references come from USCIS, itself.

A couple weeks ago, I ordered my mother's birth certificate through Vitalchek (which communicates with the State records department).  I had the certified BC in my hands 2 days later.
