Hi guys,

I've been following this site for quite a while now, but this is my first time posting here. I apologize in advance if I'm posting on the wrong topic.

I had my interview at the Consulate in Rio on September 8th and entered the US on my CR1 visa on September 11 through Houston.

At the POE the officer took me to secondary, where I waited for around 10 minutes when they handed me my passport back with the admission stamp. No questions asked or anything.

My questions are:

1) Am I a permanent resident now or do I have to wait until I received the physical green card in the mail to be considered so?

2) Am I allowed to travel internationally with the endorsement on my IV CR1 visa? We booked a trip to Italy a few months ago when all of this was still up in the air, and now it's too late and expensive to cancel it.

3) I've read somewhere that CPB should have taken my fingerprints at POE, which of course didn't happen. Is that an actual rule?

4) Is there a way to check my SSN application status? I checked the box on my DS 260, but I've read stories here of people having to apply in person because the system didn't work.

Sorry if those questions have been asked before.

Thanks!

1.  You are a perm resident now.

2.  Yes, your endorsed visa acts as a full-fledged Green card until the plastic one arrives.

3.  Not an issue.

4.  You SHOULD receive your SS card in a few weeks.  If not, then go to a local SSA office.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if there's any way I can check on my social security application and see if it was submitted upon arrival by CBP?

I know of no way to do that.

Go to the SSA office and apply for a SSN. If there is already an application in process… triggered by your entry.. that will be visible in the system to the agent.. if there isn't one in process, your application will start it
