WILD GEORGIA: Eastern kingsnake gets special attention in Atlanta

Very interesting article. Great snakes to have around

My wife called me today all freaked out because a snake had slathered under the AC unit. I assumed it was a Rat snake because we have a population of those on our property. She said it had stripes. That scared me because I thought it could be a Timber rattler. She sent me a picture and it was an Eastern King about 3ft long.

Actually that is great news. They are very docile and love to feast on venomous snakes.  At this writing she is inside covering the AC vents because she thinks it can come thru the compressor unit and up the vents. I never thought I would be happy to have a snake on the property.

It is illegal in GA to kill an Eastern King and for good reason. They are so beneficial to the environment

I can't stand snakes but one that is 1) docile and 2) kills venomous snakes sounds amazing. :)

I don't particularly like stumbling on them unexpectedly and I am not picking it up, but I feel like I got a guard dog in the yard.

Still willing to send you the rubber snake I have that looks just like that.  Could be a lot of fun at home when your wife sees it!  LOL

We have a speckled king snake that lives under our a/c unit. Pretty happy too, he's nice and big and fed well. Can  hear him when hunting catching rats and what not.

Several years ago our neighbour was bit by a cotton mouth because all the flooding drove them inwards more.  Anyway, I was freaked out at the thought of the little ones going out back. We never did see the snake thank goodness, maybe because of Mr King snake.

My crazy kids love snakes, older daughter and her friends found a few little cuties.
