Did she have a valid Advance Parole card/document prior to leaving the US?  If not, she can't return to the US without a new travel authorization.

I-765 Work Authorization was approved the next day after my U4U beneficiaries biometrics appointment. Impressive compared to other visa categories...

Great!

I think that is the way it is supposed to work. Two of my beneficiaries had exactly the same experience. One did not, it went on for almost 2 months until I was able to speak to an agent that "reclassified" the case, And then it was approved the next day.

Here is the timeline for my 3 beneficiaries. #1 had some issues causing delays. Normally you should have seen a NOA1 in less than 2 weeks.

2022/07/25 - Mail I-765 & I-912 for beneficiaries #1,#3&#4
2022/07/27 - All 3 I-765's delivered to Chicago lockbox 
2022/08/04 - NOA1 & Fee Waiver approval for beneficiaries #3&#4
2022/08/05 - Biometrics letter for beneficiaries #3&#4
2022/08/09 - Received rejected EAD package for beneficiary #1 
2022/08/10 - Mailed updated EAD(I-765&I-912) package for beneficiary #1
2022/08/12 - I-765&I-912 delivered to Chicago lockbox

My MIL was given 1 year humanitarian parole at the Mexico border on 4/18/22. It is running out, and CBP is supposed to handle reparole since they issued originally, but they received guidance to refer all Ukrainian reparole to USCIS. TPS isn't an option as the deadline for that is 4/11/22 (presence in US). 

 

Can MIL apply for U4U? She would have to leave the US and come back though right? Or could she maybe take the documents to a Port of Entry or Deferred Inspection Site (here in Ohio) to get stamped?

This will be an interesting situation. From my understanding your first paragraph is completely correct. 

 

As for U4U, technically it doesn't look like your MIL is technically eligible either. From USCIS:

It sounds like your MIL would technically have to leave the country for the duration of the application process. Sounds really crazy to me. In my opinion there has been no consideration my USCIS for this situation at this time.

My estimate from numbers is probably 15k are in this situation, given port parole after the TPS date of 4/11, but before they stopped the process and changed it to U4U.

 

I am not familiar with U4U at all. How long are approvals taking? 
 

Edit: my wife just said she read on Instagram someone did this then didn’t get approved U4U cause they had parole and left
