My wife got her interview on 3/15/22 at US consulate in Morocco. We had all documents required. The CO asked my wife a few question about me and my son. But at the end of the interview CO asked my wife about her first marriage  certificate . My wife said I don’t have it then CO asked her to send one to the consulate through Aramex. I checked the visa status it says refused. We are so confused and we don’t know what to do and what’s gonna happen. Is there anyone can help us we will appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Refused is a normal status. It doesn’t mean denied. Follow instructions and submit whatever documents the consulate asked for. Your wife should have had any and all documents pertaining to past marriages/divorces with her at the interview to avoid delays like this.

Usually, COs are more concerned with previous marriage termination documents rather than a marriage certificate.  I would just give them what they want.  Good luck.

Normal if anything is missing.  As soon as all the documents are submitted the status will update.

Previous marriage certificate is a highly unusual request.  Normally a divorce certificate from a prior marriage is required (an original or certified one).  You sure it was marriage and not divorce?

1st marriage certificate to who?

to u?

or a prior marriage?

Why would they want a certificate of previous marriage?  Any idea?  That’s almost impossible to get.  I sure have no idea where to get one if asked for it.

Give them the document they asked for (with translation if not in English).

Refused is normal until they receive the document they asked for.

if that’s the only thing they asked for, you should be ok

In Moroc all marriages are registered in Rabat

In the US all are registered in either state or county of marriage (this varies from state to state)

if this is for a formal marriage ,  the CO will ask for divorce papers or certificate of death of former spouse

i would get these documents and prepare in case the CO forgot to ask

I know where they are registered in the US and in the countries we have lived in.

Is it normal for Morocco to ask for a previous marriage certificate?  It’s an unusual request.

I’ve been seeing this issue pop in several threads in the last six months for several countries. I guess it is becoming a trend now.

OP: make sure you read the form they gave your wife and understand it. Comply with the I strictions and you will be fine

some of the African countries are already married when they try for K1 (either with USC or a person in their country)

when u go to Rabat for Morocco, they give out a document saying "no previous marriages on file"

if married ,  it will say "marriage terminated" if divorced at bottom of marriage certificate

I think this process started recently but it was explained to me by another Moroccan (hope it is correct as i have no first hand experience)

Clear.  If OP comes back I’d like to know what divorce document was oroginally submitted as it appears the divorce is recorded on the original marriage record.

Interesting.  Thanks for the information.

The status will change about 24-48 hours after that Aramex is opened.  You’ll be OK

I’m sure it’s a previous marriage certificate. Because she gave them the divorce certificate
