Is it possible to decline a same-day oath ceremony?

I've just got my interview scheduled, but it's scheduled for a few days before I have to travel internationally. From timelines it appears that SF is mostly doing same-day oath ceremonies, but I'd really like to avoid that to not complicate/mess up my planned travel. So if I were to be approved with a same day oath ceremony can I simply decline the same day oath and have them schedule me for some date in the future instead?

Sounds like a good plan.....

A friend of mine did exactly this.  She was also going on an international trip 3 days after the oath, so she had the officer post-pone it till she got back from the trip.

Why on earth would you do that? If you are not travelling the same day...get it done. It takes literally no more than 20 minutes!!!!!!!! Do you really want to chance USCIS setting you up for an oath ceremony date at a later future undefined time?  What if something happened during your travel that could affect your naturalization? Employ Murphy's Law here.

Because you have turn in all your green card and you cant travel with out a green card so he would have to wait for a us passport to travel. Before taking the oath they give a speech asking if anyone has any travel plans and wish to postpone the ceremony could do so. Its not a big deal the only thing is getting schedule for it again might be a pain is the (removed) with covid.

My exact dilemma right now. Please update how it goes. I don't mind the wait for the Oath ceremony especially  if I have to do judicial because of a name change.

I am happy to know about this. That we can respectfully decline. Passports are taking forever :(

Yes its actually a choice they give you right before taking the oath. For some of us waiting is not an option 😂 since my case took 2 years from start to finish. But yes they could re-scheduled your ceremony till after your trip. From my experience its not a big deal to USCIS either so you guys could comfortably ask for a re-schedule.

It's not like I don't want it. I just couldn't afford not to have the travel documents. My interview is 3 weeks before my flight.  I applied for FMLA to care for my mom who has cancer.  My FMLA, flights PTO is good to go.  I didn't expect  I will be scheduled for interview this soon and so close for an international travel

What are the odds you know. :))

Another option is take the oath and then apply immediately for a passport at an expedited Agency.  If you have 3 weeks between oath and travel I think that would be doable.
