There was an opinion that we need to focus more and more on improving mental health.  It really seems that a lot of the restrictions/mandates over the past 2 years have done a lot to degrade the mental health of the children in the US.  How many stories have we heard about increases in teen suicide rates in the last two years, kids essentially missing a year of school, kids being way way behind in their learnings.  Is that the case here, who knows.

I am pretty sure that based on the behavior of the parents, that he probably grew up in an environment that wouldn't foster good mental health, and when his actual issues surfaced, were not taken seriously. Based on his drawings, videos, etc he was hearing voices in his head.

Tell that to the Whitehouse.  As to the OP subject, we will see what comes out as so far we have only heard what the prosecutor has decided to release which does in fact look really bad.  I do wonder how they can charge the parents when they are charging the kid as an adult.  We shall see.

My first guess would be straw purchase, although I admit I don't know the state law for buying guns for family members.

What we could do is have an honest discussion about our culture. Instead we will have another debate about waiting periods and background checks, that goes nowhere, a debate about mental health funding, that goes nowhere, and a debate about cars and knives and pipe wrenches, that goes  nowhere. 

 

Good for CNN and Fox ratings with the chase and the trial, good for moralizing leaders who promote this as the time to act or the self-righteous who proclaim our sacred right to bear whatever weapon in whichever form....

And a raw deal for the children that are depending on adults to make them safe.

Sadly the best thing that can happen is more school shootings.

The boomer generation won’t fix the issue but the next generation will.

The 2A won’t change in my lifetime but I suspect it gets revised or abolished in the next 50 years.

I really doubt you could get 34 states to agree to changing or eliminating the 2nd Amendment let alone a 2/3 majority of both Houses agreeing to change.  I suppose it is possible for a constitutional convention to be convened, but that is a stretch as well.  Now if you believe the US is heading toward an authoritarian socialist regime that will simply trash the constitution, then you may be right.
