My wife and I (for reasons I wont debate here) have chosen not to take the vaccine. Unfortunately my wife hasn't seen her family in 5 years and my 3 year old son has never met them. We were planning a trip next year but if vaccines are mandated to fly and/or enter the Philippines we wont be going.

A good part of the developed world has already moved in that direction.  Most of Europe, at least the EU and Schengen countries have two travel procedures, one for vaccinated and one for unvaccinated.  In general, vaccinated travelers need to show proof of vaccination while unvaccinated need to do testing and quarantine.  The quarantine periods vary by country, but most have some test out procedure after 5 days or 7 days etc etc.  Also the EU Digital Covid Certificate which is essentially a vaccine passport has to be shown to enter restaurants, gym, and other indoor activities.  For unvaccinated people, they are not allowed to enter these establishments.  Unvaccinated business travelers may not be able to travel at all as most business trips are a week or less.

China, North Asia, SE Asia, Oceania are still the most "shutdown" regions in the world.  A good part of these regions appear to be taking the China approach to allowing travel, which means there really isnt much of it.  I thought the Philippines would follow Singapore and consider opening up more and more, but that doesnt appear to be the case.  They seem to be following China which if that is the case, there wont be much international travel until 2023.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

If alternative options (such as covid testing) are offered I'm okay with that. If the only way you can travel at all is to have a vaccine that is something I am not okay with and it is wrong on so many levels.

Um... didn't your wife need to get vaccinated in order to come to the US to begin with?

When I was a kid growing up and we would travel between countries we had to bring our vaccination cards to certain places we visited. A country like the Philippines that is currently not able to vaccinate everyone that wants a vaccine in a timely fashion I do not blame them for requiring non-Filipinos to be vaccinated.  If you go to the website there is a checkbox if you have been vaccinated or not, right now this is a tracking app to see where you have been and they can track who you have been in contact with.

The quarantine period will be longer if you are not vaccinated, so far there has not been travel restrictions placed if you have not been vaccinated.

As always in the Philippines rules can change on a daily basis.

It really is a backward thinking country

The Philippines has been dealing with Covid for 17 months and their solution is to curl in ball in the fetal position and lay there, this has proven to be useless and they continue it despite Covid only getting worse.

Meanwhile back in the USA states like Texas we all kept on working, we don't have to wear masks and everything is open, we deal with covid by living and working.

Yes, especially the yellow card for yellow fever.  That was a must to have when I traveled around Africa, but not just in Africa, but any country that I went to afterwards you would need this card.  I had to show it many times at PI immigration, etc.  If you didnt have this vaccination it was impossible to travel.  Airlines wouldnt even take you and if you failed to produce it upon arrival you would be practically arrested.  This is still required today, but many of the less traveled "folks" are unaware of alot of these requirements that were already in place pre-Covid.  Even with SARs and MERS, although there was no vaccine, the amount of health forms and temperature checks could be overwhelming.  I remember taking Ibuprofen for even the slightest headache as I didnt want to take the chance on coming up with an elevated temperature.
