What to expect in N-400 interview

Hello all!

My husband has his Citizenship interview on Tuesday. My deepest apologies if this has already been asked before (I couldn't find threads for it when I searched through the forum---but I'm not the most tech savvy)

We are wondering if anyone would be willing to share a bit about what the USCIS asks about during the Citizenship interview. My husband has been studying the civics questions, vocab, and practicing his writing. What else should we expect? TIA! 😊

All that we are and all that will be we dedicate to the One who brought us together

we were asked about commingling of fiances which surprise me as he was on my checking account and deed to my house before he even came to the US

(but was our age difference i think)

we had bought a car together since his arrival and he had started working within the first 2 months

mostly just know the civics questions

you could have applied for citizenship back in 2018 from date of 1st green card and the 3 years of marriage

so,  after all this time,  i am sure he'll be prepared

Totally understand the nerves before the interview. I was trying to find the same details on what the typical experience is like before I went though mine. Few pointers from a few days back:

1. They allow entry 15-20 minutes before appointment time only. No point getting there too early.
2. Once I was allowed into the building, they looked at my appointment letter and told me the name of the officer I will be interviewing with. Then TSA style security (shoes and belt come off).
3. The officer was nice but to the point. Asked for letter and green card. Then we started with civics questions, followed by reading and writing on a tablet. All questions were from the USCIS booklet.
4. Went through yes and no questions. Confirmed green card date. Asked if I was married to the same husband. And whether it was first marriage for both of us.
5. There were some minor updates to the form. Reviewed those on the tablet. Didn’t ask to see any documents.
6. Was asked to wait for oath.

And that was it! If he has been through AOS and ROC he is more than prepared!

Besides what you mentioned (civics/reading etc) they went through the N400 application and questioned any of the yes/no questions. For example, my husband was part of a "group"- an honor society in college and they asked him what it was. They also asked to see the birth certificate of our daughter who was not yet born at the time of submitting the N400. We had moved during the process and they asked when we moved. Additionally, they asked when my husband graduated and started his new university. This also occurred in the time the N400 was pending.

Commingling of fiances will not really help while commingling of finances can help a lot.

Is this only for people gaining citizenship through marriage (3 year period)? Or do they also ask this from people gaining citizenship after 5 years?

I don't even think that the majority of Americans know the answers to a lot of these questions.
