For some reason the whole family is under the assumption if one of the kids marry a US Citizen they can get citizenship.

This might be the 10th or more time you have been advised one cannot adjust status in the US if entered without inspection.

I said the family thinks they can adjust, not me.

The father was able to get a Social Security Card years ago

First thing first.

1) he/she needs to get married to US citizen

2) Then US citizen will file for the green card application  for the illegal alien

3) if illegal alien petition gets approved than they get green card

4) if that person is on green card for 3 years they can file for citizenship. if they get divorced than they wait for 5 years

5) once they become citizen they can sponsor their siblings or parents for green card. sibling and parents will go through the similar process where they first get green card and than wait 5 years to become citizens

This is all contingent on them coming to the US through a border via inspection( through an airport or getting inspected by a border patrol agent at designated immigration points along southern border) . if they came through the desert without getting inspected than this person will file for a waiver  as they came in without inspection by Border patrol and they will go to mexico. once in mexico they will go the consulate for an interview to get a immigrant visa. once they get immigrant visa they become green card holders on entry into united states

He came illegally.  So if one goes back to Mexico how long would they have to stay to wait?

Are they pretty much a for sure deal you will get a greencard?

Cuz I see that being very expensive, You have to quit working for a while, and the expense traveling back to Mexico and staying in a hotel.  Then if you get denied then you have to pay cartel fee and coyote fee to get back home.

Already answered that back in August:

the time spent outside of the US is usually limited. Cases tend to just spend 2 to 3 weeks outside the US for the Panel Physician medical and the Immigrant Visa interview, etc. But some cases end-up spending months outside the US before returning with Immigrant Visa because of extended Administrative Processing.
