US Citizens godmother sponsor a godson?

Hi,

 

My friend asked me but I don't have an answer and hopefully someone in here can light up.  Thanks in advance.

 

Can a US Citizens godmother sponsor a godson to live in USA?  Godson is 22 years old.

LPR's mom sponsor child (F2A)
Wed 2015-06-03 NOA 1
Wed 2015-07-29 NOA 2
Mon 2016-02-08 DS261 completed
Mon 2016-02-08 AOS Paid

Tue 2016-02-23 IV Paid

Sun 2016-03-20 DS260 completed

Mon 2016-03-28 Express mail AOS & IV Package

Thu 2016-03-31 Email from NVC of 30-45 days review

Thu 2016-04-28 Called NVC and was told Case completed

Thu 2016-05-05 NVC emailed telling case completed and in queue awaiting for interview date

PD: 2015-06-03

Mon 2017-03-13 Consulate Received

Wed 2017-04-12 Interview Date @7:30am

Wed 2017-04-12 Approved

Fri 2017-04-21 Visa Pickup

POE: JFK 2017-05-03

I highly doubt it. Being a godparent is solely for religious reasons and nothing else unless a legal guardian is not around when the parents pass away and then the court will appoint them as the caretaker. And finally being a godparent is not a legal title

They can sponsor financially but the godparent can not petition for a godchild.

June 13, 2018 Mary receives Mexican Residency Card

June 15, 2018  I-130 DCF Appointment in Juarez  -  June 18, 2018  Approval E-Mail

August 2, 2018 Case Complete At Consulate

September 25, 2018 Interview in CDJ and Approved!

October 7, 2018 In the USA

October 27, 2018 Green Card received 

October 29, 2018 Applied for Social Security Card - November 5, 2018 Social Security Card received

November 6th, 2018 State ID Card Received, Applied for Global Entry - Feb 8,2019 Approved.

July 14, 2020 Removal of Conditions submitted by mail  July 12, 2021 Biometrics Completed

August 6, 2021 N-400 submitted by mail

September 7, 2021 I-751 Interview, Sept 8 Approved and Card Being Produced

October 21, 2021 N-400 Biometrics Completed  

November 30,2021  Interview, Approval and Oath

December 10, 2021 US Passport Issued

August 12, 2022 PHL Dual Nationality Re-established & Passport Approved 

April 6,2023 Legally Separated - Oh well

No.  "godson" is not a relative.
