2 i130 questions that I need help with... thanks

Hi All, I am confused on 2 items on the i130 file while filing online.

1) My wife is Gujarati and her native language is Gujarati. Does Gujarati use Roman Letters?

I am stumped as to what to do for the "Native Language" section.....

If the beneficiary's native written language does not use Roman letters, upload a document with his or her name and foreign address in their native written language. If you have a test or word processing document you would like to submit for evidence, send us a PDF version of the file.

2) My wife had her name changed and this is reflected on her current passport. In the I130 file, I will use her new name. The file has a section asking about maiden name. Do I need to enter her maiden name. Do I need to enter her former name? if so, do I need submit proof of a legal name change? will marriage certificate work?

You don't know if your wife's language uses the standard roman alphabet?

YMMV

Can I claim her native language is english?

But this is not true.

"Claiming" things that are not true is not an especially smart way to start out the immigration process.

Have you ever seen her language written?  Does it use the same letters as English, or different?  It's not rocket science.

No. We only speak in English. Never seen her write another language beside English. My apologize guess I didn't understand correctly.

1) Let me Google that for you.

Have you asked your wife to write her name for you in Gujarati? I highly recommend that you involve her in this process with you, as she will be the primary source of lots of information you will need.

2) If I'm understanding correctly, her passport now has her married name? If that's the case, then you will want to make sure to enter her maiden name in the "other names used" section of the I-130 and anywhere else that question is asked. The marriage certificate is proof of a legal name change.

ગુજરાતી  doesn't look like the ABC's to me. LOL

You're just getting started.  What you haven't seen, haven't heard, and don't know, or don't understand are things to be prepared to learn.  When completing official forms and answering official questions, it is critical to listen or read carefully, interpret literally, and answer accurately.  It's also critical to become an A-Student of all form instructions.  Never, ever be thinking in terms of answering any question with anything but the truth.  If you don't know the truth, find out.

You have your answers to these two questions.  Now you have some critical advice to go with it.  Some questions are great to ask here, because you need advice from people who know the process.  Asking about a relatively obscure language, is where you use Google.  My first thought when starting to read your question was, "Why hasn't he just Googled, 'Does Gujarati use the Roman letters?"

To and "Can I claim....?" question, slap your own hand.  Don't ask those questions.  Just tell the truth.  You can and MUST tell the truth.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
