Hello everyone,

I just finished my US naturalization interview 2 days ago. I got "a decision cannot be made yet for your application". The IO asked me if I am a member of any organization and etc. I said yes, I am a member of NRA. Then she asked if I have a handgun, I said yes. She did not ask if I have any other guns, so I did not memntioned my other guns. I owned a handgun, a shotgun and .22 LR. I only answered what the IO asked. Will this affect my naturalization process? Plus I was separated and my divorce decree was finalized last month, I gave her the documents and other documents she asked, she even mention that "you are well prepared today". I passed all the civics test and the US history. At the end of the interview she had me signed a paper with my personal informations and on the Ipad (the other changes she made on my application). The IO said she will review my documents and if they need additional dicuments, they will send my thru mail, if everything is fine they sent me the schedule for the oath taking ceremony. Did anybody experience this kind of situation? The agony of waiting sucks and I am worried about it..

Thank you very much!

I wouldn't thing it would matter at all. They are usually looking for groups with bad intentions, such as terrorist organizations and such. The NRA is not much more than a Boy Scouts rating I am sure. I don't see an issue, but I will watch to see the responses. I am interested because my wife is only an LPR, has a few guns, and her concealed carry permit even. I would hope this isn't a problem when she goes for Naturalization.

From the sounds of things you should be fine, sounds like the interview went well.

Thank you Loren.

I am just worried coz I did not mentioned about my other 2 firearms. Coz IO asked of I have a handgun, I said yes. That is what making me paranoid. I keep om asking myself that day "should I mention the other firearms or not?". She only ask if I have a handgun, she did not asked if I have any other firearms under my name? All firearms I have are legal.

Thank you SusieQQA. Yes all the firearms are legal and I bet they background check already.

I did not a finger printing though, they said they'll use my old biometrics. I guess it's the because pandemic. they sent me letter for my interview which happened 2 days ago.

The issue seems to be your separation, is this a 3 year or 5 year Naturalisation.

That too, I think. I have my GC for over 5 yrs already. But my divorce decree was finalized last month, I gave the IO the copy of the divorce decree, she did even check or look at it. She just mentioned at the end of the interview that she will review my documents and will let my know by mail if there's anything else they need or send the oath taking schedule. The feeling of making you wait if making me paranoid.. 😔

You applied on the 5 year GC basis, sorry your post was not clear.

@MotherofDragons did the IO officer asked you how many firearms you have?

In my case the IO officer just asked if I have a handgun, then never asked if I have any other aside from my handgun. So I did not mentioned my other 2 firearms. I wonder if the IO officer will get me on that? I just answered what she asked and did not saying anything else. I mean you only answer on what you are asked (in USCIS interview).

They could have asked about your cars, equally irrelevant.

LPR are allowed to legally own a gun unless it is not legal for anyone but police to  own one like in Chicago or NYC ( and to correct that that is for hand guns)   hunting rifles is a different story as they do not require a permit
