lame question-  what do i put in when i fill my 5 years residence and am still there. It wont let me put in present only numerical....so I but in the date  filed online?

Do people nrmally download a cover letter when they file on online the 1-130 form ?

You cannot write on the form when filing online.  You simply enter today's date.

Another issue with online filing.  What would be "covered" by a cover letter?  You can upload anything you want.  Whether it will make a difference or be read is unknown.

Not for "Where do you live now?" page. It automatically puts in "Present" for "To" field in regards to current address.

Not according to the OP's actual question.  This is the online form, not the PDF version.

I am talking about online form. The online form is easy to follow, but seems OP is still having issues with it.

You are looking at the N-400 online form which does NOT have the problem the original post described for the I-130 online form.  The online I-130 forces you to put a date, it won't allow a date ahead of todays date, so any date you put in will be incorrect by tomorrow, and will certainly be way incorrect a few months from now.  There is no "Present"  or blank option available.   It's a defect in the form.  I'm sure pushbrk's answer is the most correct answer and since that defect is apparently present is every online I-130 application, USCIS must be aware of it and routinely interpret whatever the most recent incorrect date they find in that blank as "present".

We put the submission date on the "to" field, then put a note under additional information.

Yes, we also put in the date we submitted the online form since it doesn't let you enter anything else.
