Department of State posted about K1 visa - what does this mean?

Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office finally emailed me back but sadly not much help. They can't do anything about US laws which is understandable but I was hoping for some sort of help. They suggested things I've already done but for anyone interested here's their response:

I wonder if there's any idea for me to email the embassy here in Sweden this week. I mean, I know what they'll say pretty much. But maybe the more people asking someone is going to have to do something, right...? 😇👀

It's way above the consular staff. The respective agencies (DOS and DHS) must expand their policies regarding National Interest Exemptions. Either that or the President must end or alter significantly the Proclamation.

I'm confused. Does Naha also have an IV unit, or is it only Tokyo?

The FAQs for Fiance(e) visas in Japan indicate both Tokyo and Naha for K-1s (see the response to the last question on https://jp.usembassy.gov/visas/faq-list/k-visas/ "No. You can apply for a fiancé(e) visa only in Tokyo or Naha.").  Beyond that, I don't know.

Has anyone tried to ask their embassy to issue K1s if you are willing to spend 14 days in a non-banned country prior to entering the US? Or is there no way to get around that?

Tried and was ignored. They won't issue the visa citing the travel ban. They even returned the passport back after 8 months of holding onto it and told us to retry after the ban is lifted.

Ugh  I guess we have no chance until they lift this travel ban...

Looks like they updated the page I linked earlier.  It now also says:

The U.S. Consulate in Naha resumed certain immigrant visa services, including: IR1, IR2, CR1, and CR2.

 

So, yes, it looks like they have an IV unit (which makes sense if they also do K-1s).

Oh, no... 😢 But what to they mean with "retry"? All you would need to do is do a new medical, right?

That will likely the case. We weren't denied but refused. So whenever they do decide to process K1s we have to get in contact with the consulate and reinstate our case and submit new medical for reprocessing.

Has there been any countries that are under ban, that have started processing k1s again?  I'm sure I read it somewhere but can't find it now I'm searching for it ... typical!

The short answer is no. Some have started doing K1’s, but none covered by the travel ban.

K1s are exceptions to the bans though right? (As long as you quarantine 14 days prior entering the US?)
