Hello! My wife and I have a little problem. Well, months ago we were not able to have a joint account because my wife does not have a state ID and the bank does not accept her passport. Fast forward to today, her passport is expired, she used to have an appointment last March and April for passport renewal at her embassy but due to the corona virus, it was cancelled. Now we have a stimulus check, and we cannot cash or deposit it because her passport is expired. Are there any other ways to cash the check? Replies would be appreciated!

As a last resort,  I would have her nominee it over to you and then you deposit in your account

How do you do that if I may ask?

On the back of the check write "pay to the order of" then your name, she signs it and then you sign below her endorsement. Then make the deposit.

See, here’s the thing. I deposited it using the ATM, so I don’t have it with me now. And it told me to go to the bank. Would it still be possible to be endorsed? I called the bank regarding the issue and they just told me to just wait until my wife gets a new ID, which is still unclear because she cannot set up an appointment just yet and it would take two months for her to have a new one.

Anyone else out here having problems with the check? My wife and I received our stimulus check but the deposit won’t go through because she is not enrolled in the bank and plus, if she endorses it to my name, they’re gonna need her ID (her passport is expired, she was gonna have it renewed last March and April but due to the Corona Virus, it got cancelled). The bank says they’ll mail it back but we don’t really know how to go from there? Any insights?

I'm guessing she got a check even tho she doesn't have a social security number?  Your other threads says she she doesn't have EAD and came in on a green card.  That's not really the definition of undocumented that is used in immigration.

Oh! Sorry! Well, she has an ITIN. And no, I do not have a thread mentioning she came here with a greencard.

Take it to one of many shady check cashing places, they don't even ask for ID.

That would be right, too. But I wonder where I can find those.

ITIN should not have been eligible in the last round.  Plenty of people complaining about it on here.

If she is a USC then she should not have an ITIN and have no issue getting a bank account.

Well, I meant to say, right now I am the wife who is adjusting status. I came here on a tourist visa. My passport got expired and was supposed to be scheduled for March and April but got cancelled because of the Corona Virus. Now, we have a stimulus check under both our names but can’t deposit it in the bank because I cannot show any valid ID.

We can only advise you what to do, you have to the make the effort to follow our instructions if you want to complete that transaction without a passport. I know a thing or two because I have seen a thing or two!
