How long is it taking approximately for them to receive the application and create a  case number? Also I read you don't submit a affidavit of support until you're in the US but I see you guys talking as if it's required before the interview is even scheduled?

  • How long is it taking approximately for them to receive the application and create a  case number?

30 days to NVC and 1-2 weeks for case number to be assigned. Your mileage may vary.

  • Also I read you don't submit a affidavit of support until you're in the US

Not true. You must submit your financials which is included but not limited to I-134 and the new DS-5040. Each embassy is different so wait till you get your P3 letter for the most up to date information for your embassy.

  • as if it's required before the interview is even scheduled

The DS-160 is required to be completed before the interview and most embassies are requiring you to complete as the confirmation number is used in the interview scheduling phase. Again, your mileage may vary.

If you haven't already done so many of these topics are talked about in the PDF file found on the first page of this thread in the first posting. Download a copy to review.

Seems like a lot of people whos applications didn't ship are ones going to China. So I was just the unlucky one who didn't make the cut off with no other reason lol

The China Embassy is on a very light skeleton crew and have requested NVC to not forward any more cases till they get the backlog caught up. No timetable has been set for this action.

Unfortunately, you were assigned a case number the day after the cut off so you should be on the next shipment.

looks like you got your number on the 28th.

the NVC number needs to have been created on/before the Tuesday/Wednesday prior to the ship date to be sent out. So that's why yours didn't go with the others.

Edit: nvm I didn't see the reply you've gotten already >.>

Just looking at this form and it seems simple enough BUT a lot of the questions seem to be aimed as if one has already lived in the US e.g. US tax returns. So question 11 is about benefits your US family use, right? It just lists American ones. In Australia I have received some benefits the last few years as a solo parent going to university full time. But that doesn't even matter it seems like?

First off this such a convoluted process. I have read a lot on this subject and everywhere I read it states that it is for a immigrant who completes the DS-260. Well, we know that a K-1 is a non-immigrant visa who will complete the DS-160. But the catch here is "the man with the gold gets makes the rules." The "man" that I am referring to is the Embassy. Now this can be, and I believe it is, a hit or miss whether your embassy is requiring it. A lot of the embassies are. So having said that you should shoot off an email to your embassy and ask if this is requirement for your interview. Base on the response you'll have a better idea what to do. Not only ask if it is required and if so who completes the form. Get back to me with their answer as I am curious to what they will say.

Here are a few links if you want to read up on how to fill out the form. There is a youtube video out there how to fill out the new form but I thought I had the link. If you run across please share with me.

Move over to the PI sub-forum for specific questions about USEM process's. Also, Hank has made a handy dandy website with all the step by step instructions found here:

Okay guys, random question that I haven’t gotten an answer to on the Canada forum.

My fiancé, in filling out the DS160, put Vancouver in it instead of Montreal. Oops :( Is there a way to fix that? We’re not sure what to do. It’s already been submitted and the confirmation page says Vancouver even though they don’t process K1 there.
