Interesting, so it appears that there's a hiring freeze at the USCIS service centers and field offices.

That's what it looks like tbh with you. So it's not the USCIS as a whole but field offices. Which does make sense because they are trying to increase the fees this year to help move around more money to everything.

Good catch because I havent seen this on Federalsoup before today. That's because I don't go on the DHS  subforum but stick to DOD.

there has been a government hiring freeze since 2017 of which USCIS is exempt (they need new ICE agents )

This is very old news. Trump implemented one soon after becoming Pres, but it was lifted later on. My office has been on a hiring binge for the past year.

That being said, I know USCIS is hurting for $ (hence the proposal to hike up fees), so it doesn't surprise me they would have a hiring freeze right now.

Just browsing reddit and saw a bunch of posts there about a hiring freeze for uscis. Apparently lots of people were to join as Immigrations Service Officers and all roles have been put on hold now and possibly will be rescinded.  This obviously isn’t good for processing times.

Just passing along the gossip

uscis works on applicants fees. so they are not subjected to freeze as long as money is flowing in

duh
