While I see how someone can be well educated without going through formal education, it is highly unlikely that someone can attain advanced academic qualifications without being well educated relative to the general population. Therefore the idea that being well educated and having a high level of education can indeed go hand in hand. 

 

 

They can, and then again the may not go hand-in-hand.  Hence the perils of mixing objective rankings and subjective opinions.

I think the real question is, why are both sides of the political spectrum very quick to dismiss the other side as stupid, uneducated or ill informed. It’s almost as if voters are pitted against each other by the media and special interest groups.

Well, I've been told that my university education doesn't mean squat on here. The university itself must think otherwise because it's constantly hitting me up for more donations!

I think many times they do.  Phds and what not. Academia.  However Dems are also massively over represented by the people at the other end of the spectrum and massively over represented by people on the govt teat.

There's always going to be someone who thinks I'm well-educated, and someone who thinks I'm not educated at all. Both could be true at the same time. But generally, I think if you ask most people what being "well-educated" means, they probably mean the person who has completed their formal education.

I'm with Bill.  Mostly poo-poo data.  I spent most of my college years drinking. Engineering be damned, and all of that.  The vast majority of people I went to college with pissed away their education.  And today, I make more than them doing nothing related at all to my degree.

 

Degrees have NOTHING to do with education nor knowledge, ever.
