So i130 for my spouse was approved and case is sent to nvc. I went to the webpage where it has information of documents needed. I just have few questions if you guys can help us.

As per travel.state.gov we need to collect and submit the following documents. Please correct me if i am wrong.

   1) birth certificate. ( question: is only the copy of beneficiary birth certificate required at nvc stage, or also petitioner's? if petitioner have full copy of passport and citizenship certificate?)

2)court and prison record( again for beneficiary or petitioner's as well?)

3)police certificate copy ( when do we need to submit, should i tell my spouse to start process of getting police certificate from beneficiary's country? as it needs time to get that sometimes couple of weeks)

Should I ask her to get police certificate now? If we want the process to go fast? It takes a week to get it, how old should it be and when will we need it? I dont have nvc case no. Yet but i want to have everything ready

Also do we need beneficiary's current photo? Do i need my spouse sending me hard copy of it or soft copy is needed, i mean do i mail the documents or is nvc only online?

My attorney is old school i think he might go for snail mail if there is mail option at nvc so if that is case , do i need hard copy of current photo?

Hi! My husband and I just finished uploading out documents today.
You need a passport photo of the beneficiary (soft copy). You have to upload all the documents on CEAC so you need the soft copies of all the documents.

Heres the list of beneficiary’s documents required

birth certificate

Police record/police character certificate

passport sized photograph

marriage certificate

make sure you have the required translated copies especially in the case of birth certificate and marriage certificate if they are not already in english.

the petitioner on the other hand needs to submit:

affidavit of support (form)

proof of employment

pay stubs

tax returns and transcripts

So how does it go after i130 approval,

Did you get letter from nvc? And in the first letter from nvc did they ask for these documents? Also how long after i130 approval you were asked to upload documents,  about police report how current does it have to be? Can we get one now? Thank you so much

After i130 It took around 28 days for NVC to receive our case. After NVC receives your case they assign you a case number  which you have to use to log in to CEAC, that is the website where you have to upload all of your documents. You and your spouse will be notified via email once your case is at NVC
For police certificate, it needs to Be no older than 6 months and its only valid for 180 days. You can read about details related to these documents on Https://travel.state.gov

I’d say start collecting documents now, given the average time frame of 6-8 weeks for case creation. Police reports need to be issued within the last year to be valid for NVC, but be aware certain counties have their own imposed expiration dates on these report certificates (such as Portugal). Good luck!
