Hello dear people,

I wish to apply for naturalization next year as my 3 year duration on green card will be complete by then.

I have a question whether my wife's address on her driving license will cause any delays. We don't have a car so she never bothered to update her address even though we've been living at a new place ( same zip code as her old address) for over a year.

I do have the current address updated in our Health insurance Records and a utility bill or two (insurance and utility bill shows her name and mine. Our joint tax returns also show a same address (current one) for both of us). Our child's Health insurance is also marked with our current address.

I'm just worried if the change in address on mine and her license would cause an issue when we file for my naturalization.

I'm going to have my wife update the address at dmv soon but it's been 2 years like this and I wonder if it'll be an issue during naturalization process.

On its own it might .. but with plenty of evidence and an honest explanation if asked, I doubt there will be an issue. But she should update it anyway

Adil just completed the proces (to oath on 6th of August)

they didn't ask for my ID till we went thru security clearance at the interview

so,  just use passport ID there

and get her to change her address on the driving licence

in NY state no fee unless there is a name change

To change your license, permit, non-driver ID and/or the address on your registration(s), mail a completed Address Change (pdf) (MV-232) form to

Highly unlikely it will cause big issues apart from few questioning if asked, but why to be that way. Just have her update the address and get a new DL with the new address. Go for Real ID while going for one.

Why it wasn’t changed earlier wouldn’t be asked for sure.

Shouldn't be an issue as long as you have the updated address on the DMV online account and show to the IO once asked.

On my case I have the old address on my DL but I provided to them my DMV online account with the current address and attached as additional evidence when I filed online.

Yes, that's what I did when we updated our address together, here's the link below, you need to create an online account before you can update your address online:

You both have already updated your address with USCIS like you’re supposed to when you change address right?

I updated my address (the immigrant spouse) on the USCIS website but I can no longer find the link. Do you have it? I can ask my wife (she petitioned for me) to update hers too.

Update: I found this link but I'm not sure if my wife (the US Citizen) should also be using this form to update her address here: https://egov.uscis.gov/coa/addressChange.do

Thank you.

Immigrant updates online, USC mails it in.

If it’s late, it’s a non-compliance

I checked back my old emails. I can see I updated my address with DHS/USCIS through online from AR-15.

I now see that sponsors (my wife) are also required to update address by Form i-865. The previous address on file is her parents house and she still receives some mail there (its not an abandoned address). I'm wondering if she should now mail in form i-865 with the new address?

I'm concerned about the form i-865 field where it asks for a date when the new address change happened. Since my wife is late by a year or more, would this cause issues?

Thank you.

Shouldn't be an issue for late filing, my spouse (USC) filed for I-865 a year after we moved to our new apartment, and  during that time my I-751 is still in process, so go ahead and file it.

It's better late than sorry by not filing it, so that USCIS would not say anything about you for non compliance.
