Perhaps derogatory is the wrong word. I mean something more along the lines of treason or threats. Similar to the questions that I had on the DS-260 concerning terrorism, etc.

That makes more sense.  As a USC, I hold dear my right to make derogatory statements about the US government on my social media accounts 😉

I was certain they already had access to all that, without the need to disclose it on a form.

So instead of that ds-whatever they handed just to specific individuals, they made it extensive to EVERY applicant.

Oh well!

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it will be used to isolate people who answer "None" or create DOS friendly alt accounts and then deny / ban them for lying under oath.

i am filing for my mum who is an illiterate and doesn't know how to use the Internet, So are you saying she will be isolated for that if i answer'None" which is the TRUTH

If she does not use social media, she does not have any to disclose.  The ones who handle her case will apply some common senses - so nothing to worry.

I may be wrong but I think US Government already have many algorithms developed to automate the profiling process. These probably scan the “internet” and provide some outline regarding a visa applicant’s background.

As USC you have a right to free speech (sorta) As visa petitioner, you are subject to rules about "moral turpitude" and have to dance to US government fiddle. Pretty sure they have questions about being communist etc as disqualifies already.

So I assume if you’ve already filled out the DS-160 then you don’t have to do another one? I filled out mine a couple of weeks ago and my interview is next week? X

I read in the news, it is something that the Goverment was looking fordward to do it. My concern is: will that impact in the time to get the approval? Will take longer all the proccess? There are some points that I don't understand in the new rule.

*Are they going to look every applicants's social media, emails etc? That it is a hard job, it will take forever. Nowdays a lot people have almost 5 Social Media.

*What happen with the private accounts? I don't like to share my life in Internet, so my accounts are Private. Twitter and LinkedIn no for sure.

I know, for sure nobody knows. That scared me. If (in my mind) the current proccess is long, this new thing will be awful. Because it is for all kinds of visa. So that's a hard job. Unless they will check the social medias just in the cases the applicant is suspicius fo terrorism...

Yeah, it will be nice if the people that are starting to applied the ds-160 form could tell us how goes.

My opinion is that actual names and user handles will be pushed through a database/search tool and if there is evidence of connection to terrorist/communist/alt-right/alt-left etc. groups, a flag may trigger that would require a human to further investigate. I do not think they have the manpower to scour accounts/messages unless someone is off.

For anyone who is filling the form out, does it just ask for the user name? Or does it also ask for the password? The comment above regarding account settings as "private" is a great point although I am sure they already have tools to work around that.
