How long after interview can fiance travel to US?

I know that the embassy in London will tell my fiance if he is approved or not on the day of his interview. And from what I have read, they return his passport to him at that time. Is he ready to travel at that point, or does he have to wait for more paperwork? We had to select a pickup location for him when we scheduled his interview which makes it sound like some documents will be sent to him.

Chances are you will not receive your passport back on the day of your interview. If it is given back, it's because they have some additional questions. Before they tidy up your visa you'll have an opportunity to reply with additional information to finish the final adjudication of your visa. When they are ready they will contact the beneficiary for the passport be returned to insert the visa. They will then communicate to the beneficiary that the visa has been issued and it will travel via the means that you chose, either pickup or post. Keep in mind the visa is NOT approved until you have a passport with a visa in your hands.

You positively will not be given back your passport with visa in it on the day of your interview in London.

If you are "average" and your medical report has arrived, then you'll get it in a week. Even if told approved, there are people who don't get it back for a long time. Recent ones are..

  • A 67 day delay for a reason that was never revealed to them even though told approved at interview.
  • Another couple who were told approved in November and still haven't been issued a visa.

Sounds like you didn't read all the instruction pages London gives on their website. Read this https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/processing-and-return-of-passport/

They may or may not tell him he is approved at the interview. If he is approved it may take a few days or weeks to get his passport, with the visa in it,  back to him. After he receives his passport and visa he can travel to the US. Once the visa is issued he will need to come to the US within 6 months (and I believe the clock starts ticking at the time of the medical exam....not the issuance of the visa)

Where have you read this?  I don't think you have read that here on Visa Journey.  I have not seen anyone, with a approved visa, receive it back on the same day....
